I have just bought myself the brand new Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 for the Nintendo Wii. As I have currently owned the game for less than a day I wasn't keen to write a review on the game this early but as there wasn't one on the site I have decided to start the ball rolling and update continuously as I play my way through the game!
I bought the game from Tesco and it set me back a fraction under 35pounds. This isn't bad as I expect most retailers to start selling the game at around 40! I brought the game streight home and quickly had myself in front of the TV Wii remote in hand ready for a quick 9 holes.
The game starts by going streight into a tutorial where you are given a little run through of how to swing. The games uses the Wii remote as if it were a real golf club. You are intended to hold the Wii remote with both hands while standing with a golfing stance in front of the screen. This would be ideal if you have enough room and energy to stand up for hours. I however sat down and used 1 hand though it did probably hamper my play. If you do choose to sit down and play try to ensure that your body is sideways on to the screen, or at least the sensor, so that you still have the stance of a golfer.
To make a short your swing the Wii remote backwards away from the screen then quickly forwards and through the ball. In order for a proper shot to be taken the B button must be held until after the ball has been hit. To have practise swings press the minus button as you are enabled to complete full swings without hitting a ball.
During the practise you are given the challenge of hitting a straight drive and are expected to hit the ball approx. 440 yards avoiding the
water on the left and the rough on the right. Hold the A button to have a flyby of your chosen clubs capability and to judge whether to go for it or play the shot safe!
Once you have hit a hot the game follows the ball right to landing so you can see what to expect from your next shot. In tutorial though you just return to the starting point and continually hit the same shot until you hit the next tutorial button.
The tutorial runs you through a full power drive, changing the direction of your shots, half power shots and putting. The driving is probably the easiest of the tutorials because as long as you don't twist the Wii remote during the swing the short should travel straight. The half swing shot take abet of getting used to and will be the key to having a good round once you start the proper game. The putting first struck me as extremely difficult however once I got the hang of how to judge the power and began to make use of the ideal line camera I started to sink a few.
After swiftly getting through the tutorial I arrived at the main menu which gives you the options of ; play now, my tour, game face, tutorials, EA Sports extras and options.
My 1st point of call was options where I looked at the game set-up. In this screen you can change your swing setting and the difficulty. The difficulty settings are easy, medium, hard and expect which are pretty self explanatory. The swing setting however varied from easy to standard, advanced and nunchuck style. I am unsure what nunchuck style is exactly so will be experimenting over the next few weeks so I can let everyone know, obviously I will have to attach the nunchuck though.
There are a few other options on this screen that control things such as the green grid and the rumble feature but nothing else too interesting.
Back on the main menu I selected play now then choose my number of players before being asked to select from a variety of characters, I of course chose Tiger Woods as I expected to need all the help I could get. Once you have chosen your character you can choose a from a small choice of outfits for your golfer before confirming your choice of swing setting and then entering the game.
My 1st round was both pleasing and frustrating at the same time, I had all the settings on easy so as not to become too disheartened with a poor score but still struggled with some shots. After 9 holes I was 4over par having had a couple of large scores but also 1 birdie and 1 eagle!! The 2nd 9 everything went wrong though and I finished a massive 14 over par. For my 1st round though I was pleased.
The things that I have initially liked from the 1st round is the monetary rewards for hitting fairways from drives, reaching greens in the regulated number of shots and obviously scoring well on each hole. The money rewards are obviously part of a much larger game idea and I cannot wait to explore more and make full use of the game play modes.
The frustrating things so far are that should you be preparing yourself for a shot and accidentally press or hold b while your moving around your shot will be taken with devastating effects for your round. I did this many times though I imagine this will be a shot term problem as I will stop making this mistake before long. I did on the other hand also like the sensitivity to the Wii remotes movements as this for me shows that even on the easy setting the game will take some play hours to become good at which is what you want out of a game, especially when spending as much as you have to for this game.
Looking briefly around the other options on the main menu it looks at a glance as though game face is likely to be some form of profile editor where you may create and train your own golf character but I will look more into that tomorrow. The game modes menu offers you games such as the Tiger Challenge, a PGA tour season, some traditional games and some arcade games such as battle golf.
The my tour menu however again at a glance looks like a record bank with a trophy cabinet, resume and sponsorship icons.
Anyway from the short bit that I have played already I believe that this game will be fantastic and that this is the type of quality game that the Wii remote is designed for. I think that the game will be a lot of fun especially as it is available up to 4 players while at the same time providing a level of difficulty that will keep lovers of the game playing for hours on end.
The graphics are by far the best for any console golf game that has been before it(I cannot speak for this title on other consoles as I haven't seen it) with the golfers almost looking like real people and the courses fit to head out and play on myself.
The massive point to make for this game over any other golf game is that it will be near impossible to get to the point where the game is simple. Many golf games, as I'm sure many will have experienced, get to the point where you can almost guarantee yourself a hole in one as you know the exact time to hit the button. With a game like this on the Wii however, where just the slightest twist of the wrist can cost you so much, the game will be much more realistic and will never become as mundane as simply knowing the point at which to press a button.
Anyway that's all for now I'm sure there enough there to keep most happy until I feel I know more about the game and have time to come on and re-write. Please do rate and comment on this though and I will message you as I do update it once I have played a bit more and have more experiences I wish to share.
Any questions just ask and I will get back to you ASAP.

Ciao are their best up pictures again, eh? I nearly rated this as off-topic as it had the PS3 box art, but then I realised it was the sites mistake and not yours.
