The ‘Bed Head’ ... ...TIGI have stuck to their brightly coloured ‘Bed Head’ product formula with this serum and in my opinion it is a winning one. The clear, flexible plastic bottle means that the mint green (decidedly conservative in comparison to the luminous pink of some of the other ‘Bed Head’ products) of the serum is immediately obvious and close inspection reveals a multitude of little flecks of glitter suspended within the serum.
I’m guessing that a lot of you out there are going to think that I am some sort of freak of nature (or incredibly rich) when I tell you that I spent £9.50 on a mere 250ml of this serum. Hold back your judgement a second…for here’s why this scroungy student wouldn’t think twice about forking out for it again.

Since then, however, TIGI have expanded and their products are no longer to be found exclusively used and sold in branches of Toni and Guy, but are also proudly displayed in a wide variety of non-franchise salons.
The ‘Bed Head’ range is innovative: brightly coloured, ‘in-yer-face’ packaging and products are the norm and memorable (or gimmiky depending on your point of view) product names inject a dash of humour into the monotony of the everyday lives of their users. By the looks of their advertising, these products are targeted at the ‘fashion conscious, artistic, living-it-up 20 something’. But I’m not in my 20s, I’m not artistic and I couldn’t give (all that much of) a damn about fashion…so why is their ‘Control Freak’ serum worth so much of my (and your) hard-earned cash?
My hair presents the ultimate nightmare to a hairdresser. Naturally, it is curly (which I resent), its normally very frizzy too, no matter how many lotions and potions are dumped on it and the curls aren’t even in size (the top section of hair is much more curly than that underneath meaning that I often look like someone’s hacked at my hair producing 2 layers: one short and one much longer). So when I bought this serum its promises to ‘fight the frizz’ and ‘stomp the curl’ in order to leave my ‘super smooth, straight and with a glossy finish’ seemed like the answer to my prayers.
MISSION CONTROL…
‘So how do I use the stuff?’ I hear you ask…
Although this serum can be applied to either wet or dry hair, I tend to apply mine when it is still wet, as I frequently blow dry and/or straighten my hair (told you I hated my curls) and the packaging claims that it protects the hair against mechanical heat. I have thick, shoulder length hair and have found that I need to use a roughly 10p sized blob of serum to get decent results (although this will obviously vary with the length and thickness of your hair).
It is easy to control the amount that comes out of the bottle, as it has a highly swish top to the bottle made up of two sections. Unscrewing the bottom section of the lid removes the whole top from the bottle (which I suppose could come in handy if you wanted to wash the empty bottle after use or something), but twisting the upper, pointy section of the lid to the left creates a hole of increasing size, through which you can squeeze the serum out. So if you just want a tiny drop squeezed out…only unscrew it slightly…simple really.
Once you have splatted the serum out onto your hand it is a good idea to rub your hands together before using them to apply the serum to your hair, in order to ensure a more even distribution of gunk. Then simply use your fingers to work the serum through your hair, comb through and style your hair as normal.
THE PEER AND SNIFF TEST…

‘So I can’t use this when I’m going to work then?…No-one would take me seriously if I turned up covered in glitter…in fact the only time I’d use this would probably be at Christmas…’
Hang on there a sec…for these glitter particles are minute and just as the serum no-longer looks green but instead appears clear when you squeeze it out onto your hand, these glitter particles become invisible when the serum is applied to your hair. In fact they serve to reflect light falling on your hair, making it seem very glossy indeed…And you don’t need to worry about getting down to the bottom of the bottle and being confronted with a palmful of glitter with virtually no serum mixed in either as the glitter doesn’t seem to sink down to the bottom of the bottle but remains evenly suspended throughout the serum, though you could turn the bottle upside down before each use if you wanted to make sure.
The ‘Control Freak’ serum also has one of the nicest smells that I have ever found accompanying a hair product and one that I am quite happy to spend all day in the presence of. Catching a whiff of its subtle smell of apples as a strand of my hair falls in my face is definitely not a bad thing…
THE RESULTS…
Quite honestly, I have been amazed by how effective this product is. Throughout all the time I have spent being frustrated and unhappy with the natural state of my hair I have never found a product that has made my hair look really good and that didn’t make me think ‘I wish my hair was naturally straight’. Well now I’ve found that product. I have no idea how it does it, but this serum relaxes my curls (particularly the more curly ones on top of my head) so that my usual long and short hair effect becomes more of a flowing mane and my curls look a lot more like the gorgeous, defined, even, sexy ones that celebrities boast than they have ever done before. After blow-drying my hair having used this serum, the frizz that normally plagues my hair is virtually non-existent (although admittedly it does return somewhat if I then go out in the rain…invest in a good brolly) and my hair's often dull, matte look has been replaced by a gorgeous sheen. If you run your fingers through your hair after applying this serum they do not become coated in masses of residue, your hair is weighed down only very slightly in comparison to normal and it is easy to wash out come next shampoo.
The one bad point that needs to be mentioned about this serum, is that if you apply too much, your hair can look greasy rather than shiny or become greasy more quickly than it normally would after its been washed. But after you’ve experimented a couple of times and determined how much you need to use on your hair you can’t go wrong.
In my opinion the results that can be obtained using this serum simply cannot be achieved using any other serum that I have ever tried (John Frieda ‘Frizz Ease’ serum and Charles Worthington ‘Q and A’ to name but two). While other serums such as these tackle the frizz to a certain extent they do it nowhere near as well as ‘Control Freak’ does and make no attempt to combat my nightmare curls either.
IN SUMMARY…
TIGI ‘Control Freak’ serum is a must buy. It may seem expensive, but at £9.50 for 250ml it is actually a lot less expensive than many of the seemingly-cheaper high street alternatives (e.g. John Frieda ‘Frizz Ease’ serum costs £5.68 for a measly 50ml) and the big bottle will last you ages (I’ve had mine for at least three months and it is still at least 80% full having been used frequently). Do be aware, however, that it is only sold in salons (all Toni and Guy salons and many others…there is a search facility provided on www.tigi.co.uk so that you can find your nearest stockist) although it is also widely available online. If you want something to give you smooth, shiny, less-curly hair and your curls to be more even (or if you want poker straight hair if your hair fairly straight already) then give it a go. And it protects your hair against heat too…so no worries if you’re still not happy with your curls and decide to bring in the straighteners…

I was also attracted to the fact that the Control Freak serum is actually better value for money compared with John Frieda's Frizz Ease. A 50ml bottle of Frizz Ease retails at £5.79 on the high street at the moment, whereas a 250ml bottle of Control Freak serums costs around £10.80. I really like the branding and packaging of this product - it's ... ...of Control Freak serum certainly makes a big statement in my bathroom! I also like the practical aspect of the packaging, because it has a screw-top nozzle, which makes it easier for me to squeeze out just the right amount of serum required without any mess. I found that you only need to use a small amount of Control Freak serum in the first place. A little goes a long way indeed - which again shows just how good value for money this product actually ...

The Packaging
The serum comes in a real funky looking bottle which you would associate with the Tigi brand. Although in reality it is just cheap plastic with the product inside. The front of the bottle has the Tigi logo and the name of the product in black lettering. Furthermore it has an interesting screw top nozzle, which I haven't seen before. It's a ... ...as desired. For best results Tigi of course recommend using their own shampoo and conditioners apparently this is to prime the hair. As it will complement the serum? Once towel dried squeeze a small amount of the product into the hands and rub together. Apply the serum liberally to the hair avoiding the roots and ensure an even amount all over the hair. Blow dry and style as normal. This product can also be used on dry hair to prevent frizziness. ...

...the Control Freak range of Tigi hair care products. I first tried it when a friend of mine who is a hairdresser bought it for me at Christmas. Normally it is expensive at around £11 a bottle, and I would have to say I would not buy it if not for the fact that my friend gets it for me at half the price!
The product is meant to help straighten and defrizz your hair. It certainly helps to fight the frizz in my hair, but I still need a little help from ... ...you have ever tried a Tigi product you will know that the smell is wonderful. It is almost worth buying just to scent your hair with. It is very fruity and refreshing.
The bottle is 350ml, which will last you forever as only the smallest amount need be applied for great results. So although the original outlay of £11 is a lot, you do receive a lot of the product. I know I would rather spend more for something that works, but as I also said earlier, ...

Found in most hair salons, it comes in a funky see through bottle with a groovy twisty top to control amount poured out. This serum is green in colour with sparkling bits in it designed to make your hair glisten and shine. Most of ... ...eat!) All you have to do is pour a tiny amount into the palm of your hand and spread evenly throughout damp or dry hair b4 styling. The best thing is that it lasts for ages. I’ve had mine now for 7 months and half the bottle is still left out of 250 ml.
It was introduced to me by a hair stylist and was on special offer; £10.99 for the serum and a hair straightening spray. (Bargain I’ll say for how long it lasts!)

...I love majority of all tigi hair products, this is by far the best for keeping my course and curly hair straight or non frizz.
The fruity pineapple flavour is great. The Serum keeps curls in check or straightens them out with this humidity resistant serum. The lightweight, non greasy serum will condition and moisturize your hair and prevent embarrassing frizz. I find you need to be careful with this product as you only need a few drops otherwise ... ...do not want that.

If you have read any of my previous reviews you will have read about my issues (!) with my frizzy hair. I have neither straight or curly hair which makes it a nightmare to style and I can never just wash and go like so many other of my friends! The TigiBedHead not only helps straigten but if wearing my hair curly it takes the frizz out... heres how!
The product comes in a 250ml bottle which is clear and shows the light green serum through it, which is great as you can see how much you have left. The product comes with black writting on the front with the 'Tigi' style writting and logo. To open the product there is a silver top which you simply twist to dispense the serum.
The bottle itself is quite funky and trendy and looks quite stylish sat upon my bathroom shelf. I have often see the trendy looking products inhairdressers ...
