Despite a persistent love for my GHD hair straighteners, there are times when I have to face up to the fact that I was not born with poker straight hair, but rather a head full of curls, which, untamed, does bear resemblance to the mane of a lion. I have struggled for many years to find a product for curly hair that lived up to its promises. I was however, recommended the Curls Rock Curls Amplifier by a friend who has similar hair issues. At first I have to admit I was apprehensive about the price - paying £11.90 per bottle seemed pretty extravagant for my meagre student budget. Eventually however I 'bit the bullet' and got myself a bottle. Also, I have found that it is cheaper on the internet; the last bottle I bought was off an ebay store, and I paid roughly £8. It is important to remember however that a little goes a long way. I generally have to replace this product roughly every eight months, because you only need a little for it to be extremely effective.
This product is available to purchase from hairdressers; however, I have noticed that the number of hairdressers who stock this particular product is decreasing - I do not know whether this is just because of the area in which I live in, or if it is a general trend throughout the country. It is however available to buy quite readily on the internet. General high street beauty stores such as Boots and Superdrug, and supermarkets, do not stock the Tigi Range.
Packaging: The bottle is vivid blue, with the big Catwalk sign displayed on the front. The back displays the benefits of the product and directions for use. I would have to say that the instructions are not particularly helpful; it states "apply into hair after Curls Rock Booster". It does not however offer any advice for how this ought to be done. Personally I have found the best method (but this is dependant on the individual hair type obviously) is to use a little of the product and apply to my curls in a twirling motion to calm them down. Anyway, I do digress…the bottle itself resembles what I believe as an old fashioned toothpaste tube - with the pump at the top. This makes dispensing the product easy, and you get the amount needed, therefore avoiding wastage.
Product: I have already outlined my advice for applying this product to the hair. The product itself is white in colour, but I do have to make a complaint about the texture - it does leave your hands rather sticky afterwards. Luckily however, I have found that it does not leave your hair with the tell-tale 'crispiness' of overuse of products. Instead, curls are frizz free (a blessing!) and sleek. As mentioned previously, my hair is naturally quite 'big' - I have found the Curls Rock amplifier to really tame down the size of my hair. It does also have quite a pleasant smell - it's quite sweet smelling; it does not leave hair smelling of unpleasant chemicals.
Overall I really am very pleased with this product; I think it is definitely worth the money you pay for the outcome you get. I would definitely recommend this to anyone fighting to calm their curls!
