I've tried a lot of shampoos, conditioners and hair treatments in my time, but I've never used anything that comes to close to topping the TIGI haircare range.
A BIT OF BACKGROUND
TIGI Bed Head was launched with the creation of a wax hair stick. Much like a Pritt Stickin design, this hair wax enabled people to create funky, tousled locks and transformed the 'just out of bed' look from something you would rather avoid into a fashion statement. Aimed at trendy young things, the concept very quickly became a hit. Celebrities the world over swore by the products and the name became a phenomenon virtually overnight. Most top salons began filling their shelves with Bed Head products and with their bright bottles, catchy names and ability to deliver what they promised, it wasn't long before
the company began to grow.
In 2003, the TIGI Catwalk range was born for those who wanted a more sophisticated look. It was aimed at people who wanted sleek, shiny glamour as opposed to spiky, messy hair and offered shampoos, conditioners and serums as well as styling products. These two ranges have been so successful that, having developed over 40 products, Bed Head has now branched out into the world of cosmetic and body products. While a little more expensive than your average products, the TIGI haircare range offers a range of items which do what they say they will do and look and smell absolutely fantastic.
The product comes in a tall translucent blue bottle, which holds 350ml of shampoo, although you can also buy smaller version of the products in gift sets along with one or two other compatible 'minis' from the range. The bottle is made out of squeezy plastic and, instead of a flip top or screw cap, it has a plastic blue top with no lid, which ends in a point with a small opening at the top. To open the bottle, you push the cap up and push it back down again to seal it. On the side of the bottle is the Catwalk logo and written in white beneath that is 'Oatmeal and Honey Treatment Shampoo - Comfort Food For Your Hair'. The product claims to repair chemically treated or damaged hair with vitamins A, B and E and also promises to enhance moisture and shine.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The recommended retail price of this shampoo is £8.75 though it does tend to vary slightly from place to place and, as I mentioned earlier, you can buy mini versions of the same thing at a cheaper price. You will find this product in most professional hair salons. I tend to buy mine from Toni & Guy, but, you can also order this shampoo online at the following address: http://www.tigihaircare.com/uk/products/catwalk.asp
WHAT DOES IT SMELL LIKE?
The description on the rear of the bottle claims that 'the soothing aroma [of the shampoo] invigorates your mind, body and soul'. Though I'm usually a bit of a sceptic when it comes to flowery phrases like this, I have to say that the smell of this product does leave me feeling pretty invigorated. It is so fresh and clean, but powerful enough to leave your bathroom smelling of it for a while afterwards. As the bottle does not have a very large opening, the smell doesn't really hit you when you first open it. You only really begin to get a strong waft of it once you start lathering the product onto your hair. Though it doesn't advise how much of the shampoo you should use per wash, I have found that I only need an amount the size of a 5p piece to wash my hair and, whilst I have fine hair, there is a lot of it! Nevertheless, the smell is still very strong. There is a hint of oatmeal, but the scent of honey is far stronger and lingers for a long time after you have washed your hair.
HOW DO I USE IT?
The instructions on the bottle advise you to wet your hair thoroughly, lather and rinse and then follow the shampoo with Oatmeal and Honey Conditioner from the same range. My hairdresser advised that the best way to wash your hair with any product is by massaging the scalp, paying particular attention to the front, sides and crown of the head. That way, the ends will be cleansed when you rinse the shampoo out of your hair. She advised that, as this is a treatment shampoo, I should leave it on for a while before rinsing to allow it to work its moisture magic. This also prevents the need for a second wash and makes the bottle last longer apparently!
HOW DOES IT MAKE YOUR HAIR FEEL?
I have to admit that I ALWAYS follow the shampoo with Oatmeal and Honey conditioner because it smells absolutely gorgeous and works wonders for your hair, so I have no idea how my hair would feel if I were to dry it straight after shampooing. However, there is no doubting that this product gets your hair soft and squeaky clean without the dry feeling, which sometimes comes with it! I just like to pamper myself that bit extra with the conditioner.
FINAL VERDICT???
I absolutely love this stuff and have yet to find a TIGI Catwalk product which I do not like. It does what it says it will do, giving your hair moisture and shine and cleans it very effectively. It also smells lovely and whenever I use it, my other half comments on how nice it smells. In terms of value for money, I have found that a little goes a long way and the bottle lasts for ages, so those who are reluctant to spend a lot of money on hair products should not rule it out. I bought mine at the beginning of August and still have about three-quarters of the bottle left. Although the conditioner deserves a separate review, I would advise anyone who buys this product to treat themselves to the conditioner as well. Though it is even pricier at about £13.45, it is incredibly concentrated and lasts for ages. Definitely one to put on the Xmas list.
