The book has an eyecatching front cover in pale blue with two little girls running through a field of daisys -Dont judge a book by its cover as they say! The story line is anything but a field full of daisys!!
The book is exactly 500 pages long with quite small ... ...2 days in between my working hours.
I do not usually bother reading the Acknowledgements at the begining of a book but this one caught my eye as it mentioned all parents of children who have suffered Meningitis. As the mother of a little boy who contracted Meningitis I was tempted to close the book there and then and not to continue as I thought it may cause upset to read - and in small parts it did.

The story line is anything but a field full of daisys!! The book is exactly 500 pages long with quite small print but I read it suprisingly quicky in just 2 days in between my working hours. The story starts with a double murder as two victims are shot by the mother of a little girl who died of meningitis. The mother being very distressed at the death of her child takes matters in to her own hands and is prepared to take the consequences of her actions. The subject of meningitis is handled very carefully by the author as this been the major reason why the mother did what she did the subject is not over speculated. Had the author gone on and on about the major implications of the disease I personally and probably other parents in the same position would not have been able to continue with the book, However the suffering dealt with by the child is probably only a page or two long so you can move along the subject quite quickly.
The mother is then given a lawyer by the state who turns out to be Beth Powell the long lost childhood friend of the accused Susan. Both Beth and Susan came from troubled famiies in very different ways and Susan's crime reunites them 29 years later. The story follows the crime in the foremost but makes both the main characters Beth and Susan reflect and come to terms with areas of their past hat they have both tried to forget. Both have grown into adults that have been shaped by past events. As the tangles of the past unfolds and evidence of Susan's crime mounts up the book shows what true friendship is all about.
Most books come with an happy ending in this case only one of the friends can live happily ever after.......
Advantages: An addictive storyline, hard to put down (if thats a good thing) Disadvantages: I didn't want it to end the way it did
I'm a keen reader but tend to flit from one author to another not knowing what to expect, I don't judge a book by its cover although the cover on this one did catch my eye in my local library. I'd never heard of Lesley Pearse but decided to give it a go and took it to the counter to be checked out, the librarian commented on my choice telling me she'd read the book and toldme once I'd read it I would be back for more books from the author, this intrigued ... ...version which I'm not keen on the book was quite thick with relatively small print which I also don't normally opt for, nevertheless I began to read.
The story started strangely with a shooting in a doctors surgery, this I admit wasn't to my usual taste and I wondered whether it was worth carrying on, but I did and I'm glad I perservered.
After the shooting a lady was arrested and the story went back in time to show this ladies life leading upto ...
