...book to friends as it really is down to individual preference and how your own logic works. It didn’t entirely work for me but there again I am glad that I read it.

INTRODUCTION

Mind bending reality that challenges the senses. Difficult to read and conceptualise but gets there in the end

THE STORY

Ragle Gumm is an average man leading an average life believing that he is living in the sanctity of a peacful American suburb in 1959. The reality however is that he isn’t and everything about him is an illusion.

Gumm makes money through a strange way of winning prizes in a local paper competition where the question is asked ‘Where will the little green man be next?’ This is the start of a surreal existence that starts to unfold around him. Time and logic really start mind bending when objects around him start fading away and in time, the reality of the illusion is uncovered. So why the illusion and where is he really living? What is his role in the new existence.

MY THOUGHTS

I love the surreal nature of science fiction that completely thinks outside of the box. This book achieves this in abundance and creates an entirely new set of rules for existence and indeed sanity. It is a journey into the unknown and surreal landscape of an artificial world that at times is hard to grasp and visualise. There very few hook in reality that enable youto immediately engage with exactly what is going on. However, cleverly when Gumms virtual world starts collapsing around him, then you feel that the book is to, only to then be taken to a new dimension and existence.
This is a very interesting and unusual novel typical of the author. He takes almost normal situations and normal people and then twists their existence in bizzare and interesting ways. This book is no exception and achieve it very well if you have the logic and patience to stick with it.

Reading the book, I almost wanted to know the future text of the pages in order to make sense of what I was reading. This led to a feeling at times frustration. However, as the picture develops then the book becomes more engaging and interesting.

I struggle to know whether to recommend this book to friends as it really is down to individual preference and how your own logic works. It didn’t entirely work for me but there again I am glad that I read it.
