properGoldenEyesequel? Wishing that you could play the part of a Barbary ape in the Wild West?TimeSplitters 2is the game for you if you answered "yes" to any of these questions. When Rare made GoldenEye for the N64 in 1997 they created the best first-person shoot-'em-up the world had ever seen and, arguably, has ever seen to this day. Many of the geniuses behind the game left Rare shortly after to set-up their own company, Free Radical; their first game was the rather rushed (in time for the PS2's launch)TimeSplittersbut this sequelis polished to perfection and easily one of the best games of the year. One of the main problems with the originalTimeSplitterswas its awful single-player mode, but this has been totally revamped for the sequel with a proper story mode, all-new time zones and weapons and absolutely mountains of unlockable hidden extras. Thankfully theyve kept the wicked sense of humour from the first game, but there's also a lot more strategy for solo players this time around, including an amusing homage toGoldenEye's Arkangelsk Dam level as well as pastiches of other games and films scattered throughout the game. The real reason forTimeSplitters 2's greatness, though, is the multiplayer mode. This isGoldenEyeto thenth degree, with superbly designed levels, tons of weapons and all sorts of tricks and gimmicks such as remote control gun turrets and invisibility pills. It may lack the epic scope ofHalobut in multiplayer mode at least this is a lot more fun--and fun, as The Beatles never said, is all you need. --David Jenkins

In a nutshell, Timesplitters is a combination of all the better 1st person shoot 'em up games that we all know and love. It's not particularly original but that is one of the things that is great about the game: it’s blindingly good fun without losing the familiar style of classics like Halflife or Quake.
As far as plot is concerned, it hasn't really got one. There are some nasty evil things that...well, split time. And that's ... ...it is worth mentioning that Timesplitters also has the obligatory statistics chart at the end of each level; although it is totally useless it is always a source of amusement when playing with friends.
Oh, and one last thing, if anyone who already has the game can enlighten me as to where exactly Ravelle Velvet keeps her gun when she isn't using it then please let me know...
And that's basically it. But who gives a stuff about a plot when you can blow zombies heads off with one careful shot?
The game is divided into sections; the Story section of the game is the area where the plot is most obvious. Missions are set in three different time zones and with three different difficulty levels. Once each mission is completed a new playable arcade character is unlocked, and after completing each set of three missions a new set is released. Although the idea behind each of the missions is very samey ("get the ****, take it to **** and shoot some evil bad things on the way") they are still quite good fun; the variation in scene, character and style ensuring that it doesn't feel too repetitive.
The second section, the Arcade section, is my personal favourite for the simple reason that you can play with up to four friends and create absolute maniacal carnage. The Deathmatch in particular is noisy, messy and can be used to settle all manner of arguments in a very violent fashion :). There are also other game structures in the Arcade section; a particularly notable one is Capture the Bag. This involves members of each different team trying to protect their own neon coloured briefcase, whilst simultaneously trying to steal those belonging to the other teams. It's more addictive than it sounds, I promise...
The last section of the game is the Challenge section, which is only opened when each of the Story sections are completed. The title is fairly self-explanatory really, and the section is ideal if you are just after a quick fix of zombie massacre rather than a longer and more complex Story level.
The characters themselves are highly detailed, there are numerous characters to choose from (though only a choice of two in each of the Story levels) and more are unlocked as you progress through the game. The scariest thing of all however is that the enemies seem to think for themselves. Gone are the days of SuperMario when you could tell exactly who would be where and when, and all you needed to complete a game was a ridiculously good memory. Oh no, because now they lie in wait for you if they see you coming and react accordingly.
The range of weapons is very impressive and, in the Story section in particular, relative to the time zone in which you are playing. Consequently you can one minute be playing with a Mauser Pistol and in the next level swiftly upgrade to a Raygun Carbine.
The entire game is highly customisable, the Arcade section allowing you to choose not only which Bots you wish to play against but also how many and what their individual skill levels will be. You can choose your own arsenal of weapons, and even create your own playing zones with the Mapmaker option.
Perhaps it is worth mentioning that Timesplitters also has the obligatory statistics chart at the end of each level; although it is totally useless it is always a source of amusement when playing with friends.
Oh, and one last thing, if anyone who already has the game can enlighten me as to where exactly Ravelle Velvet keeps her gun when she isn't using it then please let me know...
Advantages: Fast gameplay, Very different, Ability to shoot people in groin Disadvantages: Glitchy control system
Timesplitters was one of the better launch games for the PS2. Designed by Free Radical and published by Eidos, Timesplitters was an unexpected smash hit. Although never reaching the number one spot (I think) it did extremely well for a little known game. One simple measure of its acclaim would be that the notoriously hard to please Edge magazine said that Timesplitters was “the game worth buying a PS2 for”. Believe me you don’t ... ...view in front of you). Timesplitters is split into two main separate modes, Arcade and Story. You would think that story mode would be a shooter revolving around a storyline of some kind. Nope. There is not a hint of story present in Timesplitters anywhere. Whether or not this is a good thing is down to your own point of view and I am still undecided. I liked the story in Metal Gear Solid and Syphon Filter but I do not see how a realistic story could ...

Advantages: Great multiplayer, good graphics, fun. Disadvantages: Hardly any!!
TimeSplitters is a simple idea, really. Just like when they created the masterful Goldeneye, the former Rare team members have created an arcade-style first-person shooter that spotlights pure blasting over complexity, and fast-action and high frame rates over too much detail in TimeSplitters. It's often cheap, popcorn gaming, but it's just so damn fun. Skipping pomp and ceremony, Free Radical has created a game that highlights multiplayer over the ... ...Players get to grips with TimeSplitters in either single player mode or multiplayer mode, Story or Arcade. The single-player Story mode is essentially capture the flag over a period of several decades, all in which you must venture to pick and return secret items before the TimeSplitters themselves (time-traveling demons of sorts) come to take your life. Arcade is a just a free ride into any of the opened levels for a good blast fest. Playing through ...

Advantages: Great Graphics/sound. Disadvantages: Learning curve to step on harder levels
TimeSplitters is a first person perspective shoot-em up.
Turning the game on allows you to input your player name or to select to enter a new name. Then its straight into the action. Choose the first level and off you go.
At first the controls are very clumsy, the left stick being for Forward/reverse and side step left/right. The Right stick controls the angle of your weapon. This made me feel as though my character had a gun turret. The Right ... ...one button is for crouching.
First impressions are good, the games graphics are clear and flow very smoothly with movement. Sound is excellent especially through my Surround Sound system, it definitely adds to the atmosphere.
After a while the feeling of the controls improve and they are no longer clumsy.
Each level is unique, going through many different levels of time, the first being in an Egyptian temple, through to a Haunted Mansion and a ...

Advantages: Very playable and enjoyable game, well thought out with a plethora of secrets and hidden bits to keep you hooked. Good multiplayer options and the ability to design your own levels is a major boost. Very smooth and well presented. Subtle humour adds fun Disadvantages: Graphics a bit unpolished, perhaps more preset levels would have been appreciated.
...what worried me most about timesplitters was the level of control you'd have over your character - clearly analogues were going to be put into practice somewhere down the line..and indeed they were. Confusion is the first thing that hit me when playing the game - controls are extremely different to the myriad of others that have gone before it - the use of two 3d sticks takes a fairly long time to get hold of, but i can genuinely say with enough ... ...and really adds the depth shown in games like goldeneye to make games like this work. Graphically the game isn't as detailed as others i could mention..but all this seems to have been sacrificed to maintain the general speed of proceedings - something the game definitely boasts. Being attacked by about 30 zombies at once is certainly not unusual, and a whole host of weaponary is on offer..thanks to a neat original plot..which involves time travelling ...

Advantages: fun game for all Disadvantages: no real story line
TimeSplitters is a first person shooter for the PS2 and was one of the first games released on the launch of the PS2. After paying the 300 quid for this console I decided it was time to go out and find a game that was worth playing… this proved to be a bit of a problem as the first games released for the PS2 weren’t the best bunch.
I eventually settled on Timesplitters because I really enjoy first person shooters… the most of which ... ...I believe it was.
TimeSplitters is a great laugh, especially on multi-player, there is a big range of weapons ranging from pistols, and rifles to miniguns and assault shotguns. Running around the levels being able to shoot or even punch some of the opponent’s heads off can be really fun especially when thay carry on fighting with no heads.
The game itself has two options, arcade or story mode… The story mode is enjoyable and moves through ...

Advantages: Technically superlative, fabulous fun, diverse range of levels, tonnes of unlockables Disadvantages: Some small gripes, slightly more levels would have been nice
I'm sure everyone will agree, it's great when you spot a bargain. Well, in the instance of TimeSplitters: Future Perfect, 'bargain' would be a severe understatement - I came across a brand-spanking-new copy on play.com for the ridiculously small total of £4.96. It's certainly the best game I've never spent a fiver on!
TimeSplitters: Future Perfect (TS: FP) is the third (and probably final) PS2 instalment of Free Radical's highly-acclaimed dynasty of first-person shoot 'em ups. Despite the fact it had to follow an excellent predecessor and that between instalments the gaming-goliath that is EA snapped up the rights to the series, it is easily the best iteration to date and in my opinion, the most complete first-person shoot 'em up to have graced the PlayStation2.
For your £4.96 you get 14 game setups, 150 selectable characters ...
Advantages: An absolutely amazing game! Disadvantages: Very addictive!
TimeSplitters: Future Perfect is probobly the best 'cheap' game on PS2 and possibly on every other console. It combines first person shooter with great gameplay and thousands of weapons ranging from the 9mm pistol to heatseeker and monkey gun.
There are several modes of play:
Story mode - where you play as Cortez, or if you're playing 2player co-op story, player 2 plays as the R-110, a futuristic robot whose programming was altered by Cortez, to make it 'good.'
Battle through 13 levels in different time periods ranging from 1932, where you assault a scottish castle with a vintage rifle, to 2252, where you fight with human resistance forces against armies of robots wielding plasma autorifles and sci-fi handguns.
Also in several levels you 'meet yourself.' in one level you find yourself fighting Crow, an evil scientist. You come ...
Advantages: Great multiplayer, Tons of stuff to unlock, a 'proper' Stroy Mode Disadvantages: None, it's the best Multi Player FPS available.
Right, let's get one thing clear, Timesplitters is a brilliant mutiplayer experience, and I can most definitely say the same about the latest title in the series.
There's nothing more satisfying than putting a few bullets ito your best friend on a game is there? Especially when your best friend is a Squid running around with a flamethrower in his hands, and you're a shotgun wielding Gingerbread Man. There really is nothing better!
Realistic, Timesplitters is not. But who needs realism, when this is so much fun? That's not to say this game isn't impressive looking. It's not Resident Evil 4, but it doesn't need to be. It's graphics are good enough for the job on hand. T:FP is about fun, not realism.
Timesplitters Future Perfect feels, well perfect playing on the PS2's Dual Shock 2 Controllers. The two analogue sticks are very easy ...
