I must admit to being a stickler for using a biro for all my writing needs, both at home, at work and up until recently at university. Long gone are the days when coursework and letters are written by hand, the trusty computer having now taken over, however I still enjoy writing and therefore am constantly needing a corrector fluid for all my little errors. In the past Tippex was a white corrector fluid which used a small brush for application. This worked, however the brush would often become stuck together or scratchy and therefore the accuracy of applying corrector fluid would fail. This foam applicator in my opinion dramatically reduces this accuracy problem and makes the corrector fluid much more universal.

The Product

This corrector fluid comes packaged in a small 20ml white bottle which is topped with a white screw top lid. The bottle is illustrated with a blue label which depicts the foam applicator and the standard red 'Tippex' logo. Upon unscrewing the lid it is possible to draw out of the bottle a small stick which is capped with a small foam applicator. This piece of foam is squared into a wedge shape at the edges to make sure that it provides a straight edge when applying the fluid to your writing.

The corrector fluid itself is a bright white in colour, the colour to match that of most standard paper finishes. The liquid is fine and therefore often requires two coats whilst it smells highly of what can only be described as a chemical smell, not to be inhaled.

A standard bottle of Tippex is usually priced between £1.50 - £2.50 and as with a number of products in my experience it is best to buy the real deal and not scrimp by buying cheaper and less quality products. There is currently an offer of 2 for £4.49 in W H Smith which makes this product a worthwhile investment for work or studies.

Application

This Tippex is easy to apply, simply unscrew the lid, dip the brush into the liquid and wipe across the area to be corrected. Often as mentioned earlier the finish is quite thin on the paper and the error will still show through and therefore a second coat is required. This liquid takes in the region of 20 - 30 seconds to dry between each coat, however slightly longer if a thick coat has been used. It produces a matt finish on paper and will not cause the paper to crease when wet. Upon drying the area can then be written over using a biro pen, it is worth noting that an ink based pen may take slightly longer to dry on the matt finish.

In my experience this corrector works best when used on an error such as a misprint and then photocopied as the liquid will not photocopy through and therefore produces a clean area on the photocopy.

My Use

I have used this corrector fluid on a number of documents and can safely say that it works very well on both biro and ball point pen inks. This corrector fluid lasts for a long time and I can easily have a bottle for a year before it needs replacing. It is also very durable; the finish does indeed as Bic state not suffer chipping, peeling or cracking.

My only criticism is when this product gets low in the bottle, as an ample shake is not enough to liberally coat the foam applicator and therefore usually I turn to a new bottle. I have scored this product five stars for quality and ease of use.
