~ SHEA BODY BUTTER ~ I got given the Shea Body Butter for my birthday along with some other bits from The Body Shop. I have used the cocoa body butter before and loved it, so I was quite excited to try a new and different one. The Shea body butter is rich and creamy and is suitable for people who suffer from very dry skin, this sounded perfect for me as I often suffer from outbreaks of eczema every now and again on my shoulders and legs. The body butter claims to melt straight into your skin to leave it feeling soft and smooth for 24 hour hydration. The Shea butter has a delicious nutty scent to it. You can also buy other products which include Shea Butter such as body scrub and body balm. All these items are available to buy from The Body shop website on in-store. The Body Shop uses Community Fair Trade Shea Butter which comes from Ghana. Local Woman hand-harvest the Shea Nuts, dry then in the sun and crack them to extract the kernels. The kernels are then roasted and ground into a paste to make the butter. Shea Butter helps to even skin tone and returns lustre to the skin. It absorbs quickly without leaving any greasy residue and it doesn’t clog pores. Shea butter also revitalises softens & maintains skin moisture which helps to restore elasticity. As well as all of these benefits Shea butter also helps to keep your skin clear & smooth.
~ PRICE/AVALIABILITY ~ This product costs £12.50 for a 200ml tub which is the only size it comes in. This may sound expensive how-ever it’s well worth the money.
~ PACKAGING ~ The Body Butter comes in a large round plastic tub which feels very strong. The tub is a beige colour and holds 200ml of Shea body butter. On the lid of the product is a round label which has a large picture of what looks like a nut. It also states that the product is from The Body Shop. On the bottom of the tub is a label which contains a list of ingredients and also states that the product is unfit for consumption and should be kept out of reach of children. The tub is easy to unscrew by simply turning the lid anti-clockwise so the lid comes off. It then simply screws back on again. I love the fact that the product is in a round tub meaning you can at least try to get every last bit of product out of the tub unlike bottles and pump bottles. The packaging is very simple but is also attractive and looks quite pricey.
~ USING THE PRODUCT ~ When I unscrewed the lid and smelt the product, I was surprised at how light the smell was compared to the Cocoa Body Butter. Although the scent of the product was very light it was a pleasant nutty smell as described on the packaging. The body butter looked very thick and was white in colour. The body butter looked very solid in the tub and even when shaking it or pushing the sides of the tub it didn’t move much, so I’m guessing this had a rather thick consistency. I had just got out of the shower so I thought this was a perfect time to try out the body butter. Using my middle finger I rubbed it along the top of the body butter slowly but firmly to ensure I got some of the product onto my finger. The body butter was quite firm on top, how-ever as I took some of the body butter out with my finger it seemed to appear a little softer underneath. The butter was really soft and smooth as I rubbed it onto my legs. I only need to use a small amount as it went a long way, which I was surprised at. The butter surprisingly wasn’t greasy at all and once I had rubbed it into my leg there wasn’t really much of a residue left on my fingers. I also used the body butter on my shoulders, arms, back and front . . . basically everywhere! The butter took a little while to soak in, and I left it a few minutes before I got into bed. The scent of the product stayed on my skin which was really nice.
~ RESULTS ~ I woke up in the morning and noticed that I could still smell the product slightly on my skin; this was really nice as the smell of most body products normally disappear within a few minutes. I felt my skin, especially the areas which are often dry. My shoulders were really smooth and soft and they felt so moisturised and there was no dryness. My legs and arms also felt much smoother and softer than they had done before. I was really impressed with the results of the body butter. I have continued to use the product daily and my skin has become noticeably smoother and softer and because of this I also think my skin looks moisturised and in better condition too. The butter hasn’t eliminated the eczema from my leg but I didn’t expect it to as I currently have to use steroid cream for this.
~ OVERALL OPINION ~ This body butter is fantastic as it leaves your skin feeling really smooth and soft. I love the fact that the product leaves your skin scented and that the smell of the product doesn’t disappear. I did think the Body butter seemed a little pricey at first; how-ever the product lasts quite a long time as a little goes a long way. I have been using the product for at least a week and I still have so much of the butter left. I also find this a great moisturiser after being out in the sun. I unfortunately got a little sunburnt the other week on my shoulder and I rubbed some of the shea butter onto it and it helped them to feel moisturised and supple. I give this product 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it to others.
