I decided i should write another Review/Opinion on this game, as i have just re-installed it on my pc, and just realised how much i missed it (sighs).
WHen you have installed it and start the game, you come to the Main Menu. I know there is a intro, but to be honest, i have never watched intros on any game, i know i am probably missing out, but i just want to play the game :).
So you are at the main menu, and you can now decide how to setup the game, as in graphics, sound, etc, it is best to see how good your computer is, and set it up accordingly, the better the game, the higher resolution of the graphics, and the better looking and faster the game will become.
So you have setup your graphics, and now it is time to set up the controller you are going to use. I would reccomend a Sidewinder as this has just about enough buttons to make the most of the Options you can have, such as looking to the left, and to the right, choosing the buttons to accelerate and braking. you have about 12 to choose in all, so the buttons on this gamepad are very usful.
The next thing you have to choose is what type of game you want to play, choosing either a Full Championship, or a Time Trial event, you can have a single race, or Multi Player. the option is yours.
the time trial, is basically to go round as fast as possible, and seeing if you can beat your old lap record, you can set it up so you have a ghost car, which you can then see how faster or slower
you are.
The Multi Player Option, well this speaks for itself, you can play with a friend, or on the internet, i would reccomend a decent internet connection though if you are going through the internet option, but you can play it satisfactory on a 56k modem.
a single race, is just what it says, you can choose a Track to race on, and also how many laps, and also how many opponents, the weather as in whether you want it sunny, or to Rain, which is very hard to control, but a hell of a laugh with a friend, i would reccomend this for first timers, to get used to the handling of the game, as it is quite a hard game to get used to, well for some of us :).
And finally, the Full Championship, well this speaks for itself, you can race the full entire Touring Car Championship, which takes you from Silverstone, to Donnington Park, from Brands Hatch to Oulton Park, all the Official Tracks are here, as are all the Official Teams, you can either go for the German Audi, or go for the American Ford Mondeo, you have the french Renault, the choice is yours.
So now you have setup everything, you have gone through all the screens, which includes putting your name in, and choosing who you want to drive for, now it is time to race.
so when you start A Full Championship, you go into the track, needing to a Qualifying Lap, which will Decide where abouts on the Grid you will be placed, i am going to say, and i do not mean this nasty, but the first time you play this, you will be lucky to get anywhere near the top ten, as it can take a while to get the hang of the Handling.
You have finsihed your Qualifying Lap, and lets say you Qualified 10th, which would be a miracle, but hey, these things happen LOL. It is now time to race, and you can go to the Car Setup screen and change the settings if you wish, but i have never done this, i find whatever it is setup as at the beggining of the game fine, this is what i have always used.
So we are sat on the grid, waiting for the green lights to go, then suddently the lights are green and you are racing, you have 2 races to complete in, the first one is a straight forward race to the finish, where you have to finish quite high as you need the points to carry on to the nesxt race, i will explain this later, the second race you have to make a Pit Stop, You have no choice, you have to make one, and change tyres, which is easy to do, seeing that the crew do it and you sit in the car twiddling your thumbs LOL.
So you have finsihed the first and second races, and you have a total of say 20 points from the first 2 races, i am affraid you would not be able to carry on to the next race, why, because you need a minimum of 30 points to go through to the next Track, and race, this can be a pain in the Buttocks, but then again, this is the thing that makes the game last longer, and gives it that bit of edge, as you think to yourself, you will qualify, and you will go back to the start, and start again, and try to make it that bit quicker through turn 4 to make up time on the cars in front, you will not brake as hard through corner 7 and try to take it that bit quicker, to over take and make a place up in the field, gaining that all important extra couple of points, this is the thing about this game, learning and experiancing all new things, because you will have to learn to handle the cars properly, before you even have a chance to carry on to the next race.
this game can last you a long, long time, it is a easy to pick up game, apart from the stearing, and hard to put down, even now it has a new release of this title, (Toca: race Driver), i have not purchased that yet, because i am again playing this. it is a superb game, and a pleasure to play, but be warned as well, you will get annoyed with it, if you are like me, and expect things to happen quick, because you can take a corner all to quickly, and spin onto the grass, and when you have returned to the track, you can be down in 15th place, from 6th, that is the game, you have to learn to try to win the races, or finish very high up, without making mistakes, because mistakes will be punished, especially on the harder settings, but this again you will learn in time.
All i can say is that this game is awesome, it is a Quality game from a Manufacturer who makes Quality games.
i will now finish by putting th Specs required for the game and the price.
so first the price, this game is now available on the Sold Out Label, for a Whopping £10, yep thats all, and i tell you now this is worth every penny, every single penny, it is even worth the 2 mile walk to buy it, because you will play it, and love playing it.
as for the specifications here they are, first the minimum.
Windows 95 or 98. (but also Windows XP Works) Intel Pentium 200Mhz CPU 32Mb Ram 55Mb Hard Drive Space Directx 6 Supported 3D Graphics Card with 4mb Memory 4x Speed CD-Rom Drive Directx 6.0 Supported Sound Card
Now these are the recommended specifications.
