...lead role.

To review a book of this magnitude, it would be remiss of me not to mention a little about the writer. Harper Lee was born in Monroeville, Alabama in 1926.Before she started writing she lived in New York and worked in the reservations department of an airline. She has won the Pulitzer Prize, two honorary degrees and various other literary and library awards. This is the first book of hers that I have read.

...rainy weather the streets turned to slop; grass grew on the side walks, the court-house sagged in the square.” This description of the town on page 5 starts to paint a mental picture that stays with the reader throughout. To Kill a Mocking Bird is almost a story of two halves. The first part of the book deals with the childhood adventures of the Finch children. With ingrained racism against the black folks never far away, Lee tells a meandering tale ... more

...of us ask from time to time, whenever we read or see something that offends us, whether we think someone who is innocent and they are found guilty, or vice versa, or even when someone else wrongs another and 'justice' isn't done, or seen to be done. It happens all the time, just take a look at any newspaper and there are stories of appeals or wronged relatives demanding 'justice' but what does it actually mean? Well, back in the late 18th century ...
...all people had the right to a fair trial, by their peers, and prohibited 'cruel and unusual punishments' to be given. In order to establish a 'more perfect union' 'all men have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness'. So it went, then, that a new country was to be set up with principles of justice inherent and entrenched right from the very start. Amen. Fast forward a hundred and fifty years or so. To a small town, Maycomb, in rural ...

Remember it's a sin to kill a Mockingbird

Advantages: Not too many pages
Disadvantages: Bit slow to start with but worth persevering

...am currently on a mission to read as many classical novels as I can, in between more light-hearted books that are easier to read. I find that if I can read a book in a couple of days, it hasn’t stretched my mind although it is fun. A heavier read tends to haunt me for several weeks and I revisit it in my mind and continue to get the enjoyment from it long after I have finished the last page. To Kill a Mocking Bird is not the heaviest book I have ...
...that it has taken me to plod on with this novel by Harper Lee. I am not sure of the reason other than to say that the first half of the novel is slow moving to say the least. Nothing particularly happens, but it is content to spend the first hundred or so pages mainly setting the scene, albeit with a couple of incidents of note, but not much to write much more than a couple of pages on. The second half of the book sees the characters more formed ...

With almost everything on this Earth, there is a definitive version, and usually, there's a very good reason - the definitive version is the best. 'To Kill a Mockingbird' has as good a claim as any other tale as being the definitive novel. Harper Lee has created a masterpiece that ...
...it's not one I'm likely to forget. The tale is told from the point of view of Scout Finch, living in Maycomb County, Alabama, with her brother Jem, and their father, Atticus, a lawyer and a saint. It is set in the early 60's (I assume, as this is when it was written, and I can't think of any pointers to suggest otherwise), and follows Scout over her first three years of education. 'To Kill A Mockingbird' basically shows Scout as she grows up; from ...

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee , is the most heartwrenching story I have ever read ! I first read it when I was at school , doing my GCSE's , even at the time it pushed and pulled you in so many different ways it was impossible to forget it. Harper Lee - Born Nelle Harper Lee was born in April 1926 in Monroeville Alabama , Maycomb, the place where the story is set is loosely based upon where Harper Lee grew up. "To Kill A Mockingbird" 's main story all the way through is looking at the whole situation and racism through a child's eyes. The adventures of Jem and Scout Finch , Atticus' children are ...

To Kill a Mockingbird Author: Harper Lee, A Review

Advantages: Very precise and Straight to the point
Disadvantages: Readability was not easy

Title: To Kill a Mockingbird Author: Harper Lee,review I thought this play was extremely interesting,it conveyed the relationships between people with different cultural boundaries, and as well as differences in skin color. The story is set in the 1930s in a small American town called May comb in the state of Alabama. This is a novel based upon the underlying themes of prejudice, discrimination and the corruption of the exploiters exploiting the exploited. The black figure is predominantly the subject of oppression. I would agree with the examiners boards that this book is very educational, not only is it a great text to study but is also very enjoyable. In total this play seemed to be taken a great interest by the readers and by me. ...

One Book Wonder

Advantages: Inspiring, full of underlying themes
Disadvantages: you'll want to read it again!

Harper Lee, the author of ?To kill a mockingbird? is the one hit wonder of the literacy world. This was the only book that she ever wrote and this fact alone will never fail to baffle me. This lady is obviously a fantastic writer as she has written one novel that has not only gone down in history as one of the best novels written about the Deep South but has been used in schools all over Britain and the U.S as an examined text. To kill a mockingbird won the Pulitzer Prize, two honorary degrees, has sold over 30,000,000 copies and various other literary and library awards. About Harper Lee Harper Lee was born in Monroeville, Alabama in 1926.Harper Lee still lives in this small village, despite having lived in New York and England. Alabama is situated in the ?Deep south? of America and makes you realise that this book, although ...
