I brought the Tobi off a shopping channel on the T.V. a few weeks ago and after waiting for a week for it to arrive; I was very excited when it finally got here.
They sent me an email saying that they had recieved payment and then they sent me another email saying that they had sent out the machine.
~What is the Tobi ~
It is meant to be the world’s first upright and portable wrinkle remover. It is like an iron ... ...still on the hanger.
It is supposed to work on any fabrics from cottons to silks without scolding or burning.
When I saw this advertised on the T.V it looked to be good to be true.
As I work from home and I do ironing I sounded perfected.
It comes with a full money back guarantee.

~What is the Tobi ~
It is meant to be the world’s first upright and portable wrinkle remover. It is like an iron but you can remove wrinkles and creases out of clothes still on the hanger. It is supposed to work on any fabrics from cottons to silks without scolding or burning.
When I saw this advertised on the T.V it looked to be good to be true. As I work from home and I do ironing I sounded perfected. It comes with a full money back guarantee.
~Claims ~
1. Five times faster then a normal conventional iron. 2. Removes wrinkles just like the Dry Cleaners and the Fashion Industry. 3. Removes wrinkles on contact. 4. Removes Odours. 5. No burning or scorching. 6. Kills dust mites.
~ Assembly ~
I found it quite easy to but together and the instructions were very easy to follow. Extend the 3 poles that came with it and insert into base unit and tighten. It has a nozzle holder at the top of the poles so you can place it here when you are not using it; this is where you place you clothes on hangers as well. Attach the hose to the portable unit and then attach the nozzle to the other end of the hose. It also comes with an upholstery attachment and a pet hair remover nozzle.
To make it portable there is just a button to press this releases the potable unit and it comes out easily, and then use the shoulder strap to carry it around. The base unit itself is on wheels so it is easy to move around.
~ How to use ~
Remove the water tank and fill up with normal tap water, replace the water tank and turn the switch to the on position, wait for at least 30 seconds and steam will start flowing through the pipe to the nozzle.
Place the item of clothing onto a hanger and place on the stand. Hold the handle of the steamer with one hand and with the other pull the item of clothing taught and then glide the steamer over the item of clothing from top to bottom to remove the creases.
The steamer is portable so can be removed from the base unit and it comes with a shoulder strap so is easy to move about this can be used for curtains that are hanging up.
You can steam sheets that are all ready on the bed to remove the creases and this also kills the dust mites that are in the mattress and pillows.
To get optimal usage out of the machine the hose must be must be stretched out fully.
~ Cleaning the unit ~
They do say that you can use tap water but it also advised to use distilled water as well. To clean the unit of mineral deposits place a solution of 50% water and 50% vinegar into the water container this then drains into the main unit. Leave for 40 minutes and then drain it away refill with normal water until all vinegar traces have gone.
~ Storage ~
As the machine is on wheels it is easy to pull to your storage place. You can un tighten the poles to reduce the height if you wish.
~ My Verdict ~
After watching the T.V advert quite a few times I felt like this would be ideal for me, but I have to say I am really disappointed. I found the whole unit very light weight which is good to some degree but you have to pull the clothing taught to get the maximum effect but if you do this too hard you can tip the whole unit over.
For ironing sleeves of a shirt again you have to pull the sleeve out at 90 degrees and it’s so easy to tip the unit over also if the shirt is very creased I found it almost impossible to get a crease into the shirt arm unlike a normal iron.
It’s hard to put a proper crease into the collar as it still on the hanger.
When you hold the bottom of the item of clothing so it is taught you glide down the shirt but you burn your hands on the steam when you get to the bottom so there fore it is very hard to steam the crease out right at the bottom of the item of clothing.
It does glide over buttons easily but to be honest it’s just as easy to turn the shirt over on an ironing board and iron on the inside.
I found the poles on the machine were not long enough, if you were steaming a dress for example the bottom would be touching the floor, so you end up on your knees trying to steam the bottom of the dress and like it states it works best when to hose is at full stretch so when steaming the bottom of an item of clothing the steam is hardly there so therefore does not steam the creases out.
Going portable is quite awkward, where you connect the hose to the machine it gets very hot and catches you on the side and you can feel it burning you as it is metal.
Even when potable you still have to have it plugged into the mains so you are still limited to the amount of movement you have. If you want to steam your curtains or sheets on a bed you have to have a plug socket near as the plug cord is not very long at all. If you decide to leave it on the base unit and do curtains the pipe is not long enough to do the top of the curtains.
It does get creases out of the clothes but as for being 5 times faster then ironing I have to disagree it certainly is not faster. It’s awkward and I ended up turning it off and doing the same items on an ironing board with normal ironing.
As for being as good as the Dry Cleaners again I have to disagree.
The price that I paid was £79.95 and in my opinion is not worth it at all but like I said earlier if you are not completely satisfied you can return it within 30 days for a full money back guarantee hence I have already sent it back, the only thing I lose is the postage, which cost about £10.00, you can also pay over 3 monthly instalments at £26.65 so ideal if you can’t afford it in one lump sum.
As for killing dust mites I would say maybe it does as it is very hot but how can you prove it.
I think the advert in my opinion is very miss leading, it makes it out to be almost perfect and I think they still have a long way to go to make it as good as the say it is.
I think the only good thing i have to say is that it does not burn or scold any fabrics that statement they make is true.
Would i recommend this product ? No
I know there are a lot of people that are happy with this product but overall i think it does not live up to what it claims to be.
Advantages: Easy to assemble and use, very effective on cotton, reduces ironing time Disadvantages: Rod could stand to be a bit more sturdy, have to hold garment firm and taunt
I purchased a Tobi Fabric Steamer online for £49.99 from SuperTvProducts just before Xmas because they offered a money back guarantee and as a young sngle mum of a 3 year old son I cant imagine anyone detesting ironing as much as I do.
I was well aware of the common complaints of this product so knew what to look out for. It arrived pretty quickly and I used it for the first time this morning. It was pretty easy to assemble and use and I must say ... ...In my case the Tobi DEFINATELY reduces my ironing time and the heat up time in comparison to my iron is superb. The unit itself is pretty compact and neat but I havent used it as a portable unit yet. I have not used the Tobi on denim yet so cannot comment at this stage. So far the only drawbacks I have found so far is that 1) you have to hold the garment firmly and taunt when steaming otherwise it will bobble around all over the place and 2) the ...
