History

The toblerone as we all know it, has been around for quite some time as it was first created by Theodor Tobler and Emil Baumann in Switzerland in 1908. For a chocolate bar that?s been around for over 100 years its good to see that a lot hasn?t really changed about the bar itself.
When it was first created, they came up with a unique blend of nougat, almonds and honey and mixed this into milk chocolate to create something totally unique at this time.

After doing some research into the shape of the toblerone, I also found out that it was based on the Matterhorrne of the Swiss Alps and this is why it was given its triangular shape it is so renowned for today.

The new variation.

These toblerone tinys are basically miniture versions of the original toblerone pieces. Unlike other variations which have been individual pieces wrapped up, these contain a bar of three little pieces on each block you get and these are all wrapped individually. They contain a mixture of the three toblerone flavours, milk chocolate, dark chocolate and my personal favourite white chocolate.

A waste of packaging or a good idea?

Personally I wasn?t too sure about these at first, although the box these come in is fairly big, it feels very light and like there isn?t that much inside. Whereas when you buy a full bar of toblerone, you know what your getting straight away, you can feel the weight of the bar and know you have a fair bit of chocolate for your money.

I suppose that you don?t get anywhere near the amount of chocolate that you would in a full bar of toblerone, however the point of these is that you have a choice of what chocolate to eat.
A full bar of toblerone is usually quite big, obviously depending of what size you get, however you may get bored and sick of just the one type of chocolate. This is where the toblerone tinys come in, as they give you the choice of three. Toblerone say this gives you the choice of sharing your chocolates, and they are quite good for this as your couldn?t really share the big toblerones as easily as you can with these new tiny toblerones.

A bad point to the three different flavours though, is that not everyone like all three. I like milk chocolate and I love white chocolate toblerones, however I?m not really that keen on dark chocolate, and not many people I know are either. So that means that I?m spending money on a third of the chocolate that I?m basically not going to eat, or if I do eat, I?m not really going to enjoy. However perhaps I?m just a fussy eater and most people like dark chocolate?

In terms of is the packaging a bit excessive, probably so. They come in a cardboard box which is cleverly designed so that once opened, the top acts as a kind of lid for the box so that all you little toblerones can be kept inside. However you do end up with a lot of wrappers at the end, after they have all been eaten. I?m not really too sure if this is something that they could have cut down on though, as I wouldn?t just want my chocolate not wrapped in anything, so perhaps it is essential however a lot of packaging is used here.

What do they taste like?

The taste of a toblerone is unique and quite hard to explain but I?ll do my best, I?m sure you have all tasted a toblerone at least once in your lifetime anyway.
These tiny toblerones are also no different to the full sized versions at all, as expected as well. I?m glad they havnt gone changing the flavour as to be honest the were perfectly fine before, and I think the flavour of these never should be changed either.

The white chocolate toblerone as I mentioned earlier is my favourite by a clear mile, I think this is where the taste of the almond and honey really comes through. I think this is because white chocolate is a sweater taste than dark and milk chocolate and it also isn?t as strong. This makes the taste of the white chocolate seem a bit stronger than most and also means that the honey and almond taste is a lot more prominent. As you would probably expect, these come in the white wrapper and are easily identified as white chocolate. I really could eat these all day.

The milk chocolate is my second favourite edition. it?s the first toblerone I ever ate, and probably is for most people as it?s the most common one, and most peoples favourite too. Its not quite as sweet as the white chocolate edition however the taste of honey and almond really comes through again and gives a real nice flavour to the chocolate itself. Unlike some other milk chocolates, its not too strong and tastes really creamy and light, and that?s what I like about it. These come in the cream/ yellow coloured wrapper which is the recognisable colour of the tobelrones you will probably all know well.

The dark chocolate one is really the only one I?m not that bothered about. These come in the black wrapper and I tend to give most of these to anyone else that will eat them. I just really don?t like dark chocolate as I find the taste a bit over powering. The honey and almond doesn?t come through very well and this ruins the whole taste of toblerone I think. I do have to be honest though, I don?t mind these as much as most dark chocolate as its probably more sugary than a lot as it still tasted quite sweet, but the dark chocolate are still my least favourite out of the three.

So?. Just how bad are they for you?

Alright, well it had to come some day, this is the bad part of my review where I find out just how bad for me all those chocolates I just ate actually are.
Okay iv done this based on 2 actual blocks, so essentially 6 pieces of toblerone.

Serving size- 6 pieces, 35g.
Calories- 180
Total Fat- 10g 15% of GDA.
Saturated fat- 6g 30% of GDA.
Trans Fat- 0.1g
Cholesterol- 10mg 3% of GDA.
Sodium- 20mg 1% of GDA.
Total Carbohydrate- 21g 7% of GDA.
Dietary Fiber- 1g 4% of GDA.
Sugars- 20g
Protein- 2g

As you can see, for only two small blocks of chocolate, a hundred and eighty calories is quite a lot when you can have a healthier option chocolate bar or biscuit which isn?t quite as bad for you. The saturate fat is also quite high as well, and it would be very easy to eat over your GDA in saturated fats alone. My advice is to just east a couple of these a day and make them last instead of eating them all in one go, which I?ll admit, is what I did.

How much are they going to set you back?

Well I actually received these as a gifts for Christmas, and since then haven?t bought any more.
I haven?t seen these for sale in asda however I did see them on special offer in Sainsbury?s 2 for £5 a couple of weeks ago. I?m sure there?s other shops you can get them for cheaper as well but you may just have to look around a bit.

What are they good for?

If I were advising these toblerone tinys for anything, it would be a great gift idea. For any one who loves toblerones, or just for any one who likes chocolate, and lets face it, that?s pretty much anyone. They are nicely presented and don?t look really cheap, and I received these as a gift and I certainly wasn?t disappointed.

Do I advise them?

Yes and no, as mentioned above they are a good gift idea however I think if I were going to buy a chocolate bar for myself then I would just get a big toblerone bar. You get more for your money with a big bar and they also last you longer than these do.
And with these toblerone tinys, its not as easy to see when someone?s pinched one either.
