I cant believe no one has written a review for this fantastic magazing yet. Today's Golfer is Britains Best Selling Golf Magazine. It comes every month, occasionally with freebies in and cost only £3.40 per issue.
Free Items: Here is a list of free items i have got. A long gamedvd worth £12.99, a supplement magazine titled 'sexy golf' which tells you how to play some very stylish shots, a 146 page magazine showing you the latest equipment coming out in 2005. This is all i can think of at the moment, but you get lots of free things which is good.
If you're into golf, this is the definitive magazine for you! The magazine balances facts,
features, advertising and wit very well, and the whole magazine blends together smoothly. I have found myself sitting down to read a few pages, but gone on to read half the magazine!!
Here are a few of the regular features: A double page spread of letters called TG Mail TG Tenner (where professional golfers and other sports people play the today's golfer team at a round of golf, for £10) 'Best Golf Holes In The World (every month, they feature a stunning picture of a beautiful golf hole, which are a joy to look at. However, the holes featured are normally on courses that cost you well over a £100 to play, so get saving.) 'What do you think about when' (4 pro's are asked what they would do in certain situations) Ten Second Tips (quick tips to help you with your game) Reality Check (where pro golfers are asked simple life questions such as how much is a pint of milk or tested on spelling) Brain Game (Professional mind coach Dr. Karl Morris helps you think your way to a better game, using special psychological techniques)
As well as all these features, and more, Todays Golfer Team choose pieces of golf equiment, and rate it. For example, the could choose lots of different bags, or, drivers over £400. This is entitled, 'the big test.' Every month, a different type of equipment is rated. They choose lots of bags from top quality makes, and rate them according to performance, value, and two more categories which i cant remember (SORRY)
A buyers guide also comes included most months, which tells you the best clubs you can get in the different categories. The top club you can by in most categories rarely changes, e.g. The TaylorMade Rescue Mid has been topping the 'Utlilty Clubs' category ever since it came out ages ago. This is a shame. However, on these pages, there are also 'Gear Shorts' which are small nuggets of info in the golfing world.
Courses & Travel: At the back of the magazine, there are lots of pages advertising different golf holidays abroad and in England. Some good deals can be found here. Also in the magazine is a section where courses are talked about in the British Isles, giving you details of where to find them, prices and number. All the courses featured in this section are compatible with 2-Fore-1 vouchers, enabling two players to play for the price of one. Every month, there is also a feature called 'Lads on Tour in...' and the place changes every month. The journalist is given £250 and has to play golf, eat, sleep and drive to the courses all for this amount. Inmation is given to you about where to play, (with a handy map) where to stay, and an overall guide to the city.
Overall: This is definitely a great magazine to own, it is nicely presented, clear, lots of facts, and some great stories and features. You Must Buy This If You Are A Golfer!! and even give it a try if you are not, you might find you get converted. This magazine has also helped me get more into the sport, and i'm 15. So you can start reading at any age.
Thanks for reading this, please rate and comment, i'd like to know what you think of the review. Phil
**UPDATE**
Beginning from the june 2005 issue of today's golfer, the magazine has a new look. Originally, i disliked the look, as i was very accoustumed to the old look, but i am beginning to like it. Unfortuenately, the magazine has got rid of most of the regular described above, but they now have new sections. In the july is, anyone who buys the magazine receives a free 2005 2-fore-1 factfile along with a free -fore-1 voucher.
Hope this is usefull
Phil
