I won't go over technical details already covered in a previous review and i will focus on usage and additional services provided by the GO 700.First of all, let's talk about difference with other models( 500/300).This navigator can link to your mobile phone via bluetooth.According to the model of mobilephone you have, you will be able to: -make phone calls using 2 different modes:Phonebook or manual number entry( all models of phones supported) -receiving phonecalls( all models of phones supported) -sending Text messages ( only some model of phones supported) -connecting to the Internet for Map download / addictional functions( you need a subscription for additional services and your phone need to be WAP enabled) WARNING: does not connect to Motorola PEBL phone, due to bluetooth problems .It will find the phone but due to the particular way Motorola handles bluetooth connection( limited connection time allowed) , it will not connect. i open a ticket with TomTom support for this problem and the answare was: Motorola fault.... Works perfectly with my other mobile phone( SonyEricsson T630) Second difference :it has a 2Gb internal memory, not expandable.it can hold more map than you will ever need. Additional services provided:
Weather forcast for the area you travel in. Traffice info: Give you live report of traffic in your area and along your planned route.It cost 79.95 euros for traffic in all Europe, 59.95 for UK traffic only. I used this service for a couple of months, and i do not need it. It reports only planned roadworks and not traffic jams.Warning: it connects to the Internet to download traffic info you you might get surprises in your phone bill...set it up carefully so it does not check every 5 mins.. Speed Camera : I have it enabled. it reports on fixed cameras.The TomTom will start beeping 500m before the speed camera and gives you visual warning.Map of cameras can be downloaded from Internet Voices: You have a set of voices preinstalled, for any different language a Male and a Female voice, but you can buy different voices from TomTom website, price vary from 4.95 to 9.95 euro per voice. Routes:You can download routes for free from the Web. They are scenic routes . All Europe is covered, split by country. Audiobook: If you are travelling for a long time, Your TomTom canread you an Audiobook!! Price of download varies. Maps: you can download region maps from the Internet. price varies from 4.95 to 119.95 Euro Point Of Interest: you can download point of interest from the Web. price varies from free to 39.95 euro.
Usage: The TomTom GO 700 takes quite some time to find location when you switch it on, especially in town surronded by tall building,but that is pretty mutch the only navigation problem I can see on the software.Positioning is always accurate, maps( if you keep up with the downloads) are up to date, and voice navigation aids are pertinent.It call you the turn you have to take around 100 meters before it happens , and then a second time exactly when you have to turn, and furthermore, it will tell you how far the next turn will be.The touch screen display is well visible even in very bright light, and the device has a "Nigh Mode" with soft colors that can be manually switched on , or automatically timed to go on at dawn.You can pick your destination is several ways(post code, street name/number etc etc ) but the one i prefer is point on map.Point of Interest are quite comprehensive, but sometime not properly located.Three petrol station in my town listed, two are in right place , one is around 500 meters from where the TomTom says it is, and on the other side of the road.
