Try messing with the map in the car when you don't know the longitute and latitute of a car park for a country park or something similar then you're in trouble.

It doesn't pick up a GPS reception indoors and the battery runs low fast, meaning that unless you are sitting in the car, with the engine on and the tom tom chargings, planning the route is impossible! The other prob is it does not attach to the window as the add shows, it tends to fall off at the first road bump you hit.
This device has been dadly thought through, is over expensive and only use is to drain the battery and waiste time!
Advantages: Full featured, relaible navigation. Disadvantages: None I can think of yet.
...names and road numbers.
TomTom on line support is comprehensive and includes the ability to download predicted satellite positions to speed up acquisition time.
The UK map includes the congestion charging zone in London and will navigate you around it to avoid tolls.
The GPS receiver seems to be improved from the last TomTom I used, the Go 910. The latter frequently got confused when I stopped at traffic lights and kept telling me to do 180 degree ... ...One nice detail I like on TomTom is the 100yd markers shown on the road ahead (you don't get that on Garmin) which helps assess distances to turns, etc.
Mapping, points-of-interest, map error sharing, updates etc are all available on line.
Altogether, very sexy piece of kit. ...

Advantages: Simple to use, compact, good PC interface Disadvantages: None I can think of so far, could have had a case I suppose
...below and past experience with Tomtom made me nervous, but my TomTom 720T arrived and with some trepidation I linked it to my PC to update and it was seamless, worked a treat. Couldnt download the latest European map 7.10 as I had 7.5 under their "latest map guarantee" but hopefully Tomtom will sort me out.
Bought a carry case (you need one) from Lindens Ebay for £4.99 in blue. they have black, brillant and it arrived in a flash, cannot understand ... ...my purchase. Although TomTom website help looks great ,there are a number of minor but relevant questions not answered, so you have to go through their process and email and keep your fingers crossed they reply and to date they have.
Only 1 year warranty now, used to be two on previous products so lets hope it stays robust. Paid £256 via "TheLink" with free by 1pm next day delivery, it turned up on time.
Im sure the price will drop now Ive bought ...

TomTom720T
SatNav devices remind me a little of mobile phones in the early nineties. They are a little bit pricey, a little bit niche and until recently the preserve of gadget freaks and those who drive for a living.
These days they are a lot more prolific and I can foresee a time when they will be just as ubiquitous as mobile phones and everyone with a car will have one, and no doubt more than one if they have more than one car in the house.
This is my second SatNav device and I can't imagine ever not having one now. They keep getting better and I rarely consult the A - Z now except to get the broadest idea of where I'm going and how to get there. I've become accustomed to using it even for relatively short journeys to places I've been many times and have regularly been taken on routes I hadn't been aware of in the past ...

TomTom is a trustworthy name when it comes to GPS units. I recently bought this and loved it. The TomTomGO720T is an updated version of the GO 510 which was an amazing GPS unit itself.
The TomTomGO720T has a comfortable 4.3 inch widescreen and this unit is one of the first GPS systems to have VRT (Voice Recognition Technology). The system records your voice and gives you an answer to your vocal question of your chosen route. You can ask the TomTom to work out your route from point A to B by simply using your voice. The TomTom allows you to choose from a number of pre set voices to guide you through your journey or even your own voice.
The TomTomGO720T has a new never seen before graphics interface. The look of the maps is sleek and the buildings are in more detail. Set in the TomTom's memory is a list of speed cameras ...

Advantages: Small. compact good screen, fairly simple to use Disadvantages: No electronic screen button to switch it off only hardware button
With some trepidation as Ive dealt with TomTom in the early days I ordered up the Go720T. Ive read a few negatives but Ive used the tomtom software for some years on my PDA (after they got it right) and so am familiar with it
The 720T arrived free overnight by 1pm from "The Link" for £256 and I set it up on my PC. It linked without problems via the Tomtom Home V2.1
The only item was the map update, it said I had the latest map 7.05 when in fact the website had 7.10 map. Ive emailed Tomtom so hope they will provide me with a link under their latest map guarantee.
The unit has worked well and Im pleased I made the purchase. The Traffic addition linked up but as yet I havent completed any long journeys to see if it kicks in.
Didnt come with a case (you need one) so I bought a blue nylon type one at £4.99 from EBay, (Lindens ...
