Overall this is a very good GPS system benefiting from a wide range of features including a 20GB hard drive, text-to-speech technology and even a built in MP3 player. As far as GPS systems are concerned this model is definately one of the best.
Main advantages;
Text to Speech technology - This nifty bit of technology allows the GPS to read aloud the directions to you. But not in the way that existing models have, the system uses actual street names. It is usually accurate but does tend to suffer when it comes to complicated road names. But this can easily be overlooked. Another benefit of this is that it can read your text messages aloud while driving, making driving safer.
Bluetooth Technolgy - This effectively allows the Tom Tom to serve as a navigation tool and mobile communications device. It can already ready your text messages out to you and when paired to a mobile phone (via bluetooth) you can use it to speak freely while driving. However to get full use of this feature you need to use the additional microphone provided so that sound quality is optimised.
User Interface - TomTom GPS devices are known for their excellent user interface and the GO 910 is no exception, offering a similar interface to the One and GO 500 units. The menu features clear and colourful icons that can be likened to a mobile phone menu, so browsing is simple and easy. As with previous TomTom units, everything is operated via the 4in touch screen
Most of the GO 910's operations can be accessed via the main menu, which is split into three separate pages. From here you simply tap the 'Navigate To..." button to navigate to your home, a favourite location, a specific address, a recent destination or a point of interest (POI). You can further narrow down your search when looking for a specific address, as the GO 910 allows you to navigate to a city centre, specific street and house number, crossing or intersection or even via postcodes. Navigating to a point of interest also offers substantial options, as you can choose a POI near your current location, in the city, near your saved home location, along the current route you are travelling or near a specific destination. TomTom has upgraded the software to ensure street names are filtered by suburb, although the software still doesn't allow you to search for a street name first, only a suburb.
Easy of Use - A great feature of this GPS system is that it is very easy to use for first time buyers (i.e. anyone not owned a GPS before, like myself). The screen is large, bright and responsive and the tracking system is ver quick loading and finding satellites for navigation.
Storage - One of my favourite features of this model is the large hard disk space available. The same as very high grade mp3 devices the Tom Tom can store mp3 files and photos to view/listen to at any time. The music can be listened to via the bluetooth connection or via a line-in socket to the cars stereo (prefered option as sound quality is better)
Battery life is rated at four hours by TomTom, although if you use it to connect to your mobile phone via Bluetooth. On average, you can experience between three and three and a half hours of battery life which isn't the best and could be improved in future models.
l-in-one car navigation device. Now you can personalize your TomTom GO. It comes in a classic brushed metal silver finish but you can customize yours to match the car ...
