Advantages Intuative, good display, easy to use, Great design and interface

Disadvantages Price

We where of to the States and Canada, and wanted a sat nav for the 3 weeks fro our 100 mile trek, to hire one with our rental car was going to cost in the region of £150 so we decided to buy one instead, we bought it for just £285 on line from Halfords, and it has been brilliant. All the world maps are preinstalled, we told the machine before we left the uk the destinations we where going to friends and families address and logged them as recent destinations, we did this as we knew that when we arrived we would be tired and not really be wanting to try and figure out programmming the device when we where concentrating on driving on the wrong side of the road in Usa Friday night rush hour round Seattle... I don't recommned it. But the tom tom without a glitch 10 seconds after switching on and selecting usa it had located where we where and took us to the door and for that I would have married the machine if it were legal, no arguing over directions and maps for the whole holiday, it was just a battle on who was going to talk to our new best friend. The other major advantage was the Speedo, the hire car we had was in MPH only, In Canada the speed limit is in Kilometres, so we had to know the speed we where travelling the Tomtom, we could change the settings to Km and the device tells you how fast you are going and it tells you how close that is to that areas speed limit so the display may say 45/50 meaning you are travelling at 45 km per hour in a 50 Km area. The screen is clear and intuative to programme, its the ipod of the sat nav world. The device has lots of toys on it as well as been able to use it as a blue tooth handsfree mobile phone device, you can play your Ipod through it, and speak to it to ask for directions, so no need to fiddle with the buttons, to ask it to get you places, it can even guess where you are if you go out of link with the satelites such as an underground carpark as it has movement sensors, you can even use it to go on foot. The one mystery to the device is cometimes we can switch it of and 2 minutes later it boots itself back up, we think there may have been a soft ware glitch as new software packages are downloaded via the web from a dock you can put through a Computer usb port, it seems to have stopped that for 6 months and is now behaving itself. It really paid for itself by saving travel time and helping us not get lost and when we did make wrong turnings helping us get back Priceless... we may still be circling Seattle now if it hadn't been for the Tom Tom
