But seeing this in an electrical store, I thought ‘what the hell, don’t knock it till you’ve tried it’ so I went ahead and bought it.
Look
An ugly, visually distracting piece of kit which attaches to your window by suction, I am willing to bet that these things contribute to accidents without even being turned on.
Function
Well it did what it was supposed to do; it told me how to get where I was going. It also had lots of wonderful extra features such as Google search (WHY!?!?) and it told me where the traffic jams are. It also had lots of wonderful safety alerts which gradually increased the urge to throw it out the window or drive into a river (trust me, people weren’t being stupid, they just wanted to shut the thing up). It beeped at me when I was speeding, it beeped at me when there was a camera, hell, it even told me when a petrol station was coming up (It’s huge, and it’s signposted, I can see it!) and it told me about the upcoming turn 5 times before I reached it. The whole thing reminded me of when my father used to let my mother navigate.
Overall
Well I tried it, I’ve knocked it, and I shall promptly be returning to the shop to get my £300 pounds back, of which I shall be spending a very small fraction on a road map.
