As with all TomTom maps, easy to see, easy to use, easy to understand, and easy to update.
Absolutely fantastic, I have no idea how we ever coped without her/it. From getting off the ferry, the map/navigation was spot on, good clear instructions, ... ...least, not with Jane (oops, TomTom Western Europe).
It is very hard to think of any negatives, the only one, and not such a biggie, is that sometimes she (Jane) tells you to turn right or left when really it is only a bend, or bear left or right when it is a turn.
On the way home we decided to avoid Paris and go by night, no problem, night time settings dim the map, and rural roads are no problem.

Absolutely fantastic, I have no idea how we ever coped without her/it. From getting off the ferry, the map/navigation was spot on, good clear instructions, in plenty of time, and the first time I have ever got through Paris without a hitch.
To give you an idea of how good, we bought a local map of where we were going on the Limousin/Perigord borders, that did not have the town we were staying in (I call it a town loosely) as it was so small, no problem for TomTom, straight there, which was welcome after 7 hours of driving.
We spent two weeks in the area and each day, looked on a big map, or in a leaflet and decided where we wanted to go, typed it in, and away we went, no problem. Now this is not only Motorways and A roads, we are talking about being guided around forst tracks without fault.
Every turn plain to see, a really good function is to 'zoom out' so the roads twists and turns ahead can be seen, okay, so I played the rally driver a bit, lol.
I cannot believe that every saftey camera in France was notified to us, but it was.
My partner and I have discussed at some length how we genuinly believe it is the best money we have ever spent, we love Europe, especially France, and it was terrific.
A great feature is to enable 'points of interest' such as parking places, tourist information offices, recreation grounds etc, when going into a new town abroad, finding somewhere to park or navigating town centres (Limoges, Sarlat etc.) can be daunting to say the least, not with Jane (oops, TomTom Western Europe).

If anyone is getting a TomTom, buy the Western Europe map, it will save you its cost on one trip, in petrol, maps and above all, stress, how on earth did we manage without?

...using the free programme called Tomtom home. You then are able to use your Tomtom one, Tomtom Rider, or any of the Tomtom Go series in Europe. The map in this review is version 6.5, this is the latest version out, and is pretty much up to date. Contents - In the box you will find, the latest version 6.5 software on DVD, containing very detailed instructions, voice prompt files and Tomtom home, also in the box are the warranty leaflet, (the warranty ... ...just need to let the Tomtom get lost than get found again. I have rarely been sent the wrong way, and always get there in the end. Packaging - The packaging is good, this is importand if you are buying mail order. POIs - Yes, and there are literally Millions of them.
Speed cameras etc - Yes you can upload speed cameras - or should we call them safety cameras? Remember that some European Police forces do not like anything with speed cameras on.

Having used a Tom Tom Go 700 for a number of years, I decided to update the maps of Western Europe. Tom Tom uses software called Tom Tom Home which is used to download the updated maps. Having connected Tom Tom Go 700 to my PC, via a USB cable, it was a simple matter of clicling on the relevant icon on the Home Software, paying for the maps, and downloading them over the internet.
Payment was straight forward. It is undertaken electronically either ... ...Because of the size of the map file, it took a little time to download (I do have broadband running at 8mb band width, so I suppose a lesser bandwith will take longer.
Use of the system is simplicity itself. You are given a choice of country, and then you select address, or point of interest. ...

...the new priority and the TomTom will be forced to re-calculate the route and find an alternative. The only disappointment is that there is no support for post codes in Europe, so it usually means studying Autoroute in advance and setting the destination on the PC. The addition of speed camera alerts is welcome, as they are usually hidden in Spain, and sooner or later a reciprical arrangment will be reached with Spain. The maps do go ut of date all ...

Owners of the TomTom Go in-car GPS navigation system will be used to it's sleek design, ease of use, and variety of useful features. The TomTom Go comes with Major Roads of Europe already installed on the memory card included in the box. However, if you'd like to navigate Europe at street level, you'll need to purchase the Maps of WesternEurope package for an additional price - usually just over £100.
This package comes with all of the street level maps for WesternEurope including France, Spain and Germany on 4 CD-ROMs. These maps can be transferred onto SD (Secure Digital) memory cards for use with the TomTom Go Navigator via your home computer. The SD card that comes with the unit can be used, but you'll obviously need to remove the maps of the UK before you upload the European ones.

Advantages: great software, great usability, graphics, features, lots of maps Disadvantages: price, it was not that easy to install
in your trip, etc. You can customize it to 'speak' in many different languages including English, Dutch, Portuguese, French and many others. Furthermore, you can also set the map with different colour schemes, which is very handy when driving at night so the colours are a bit less bright.
Other additional features (you need to pay for this) let you know the weather of your destination in advance, the traffic of your route, make phone calls if your device allows you and many others.
The advantage of this over the main Tomtom unit is that it has maps for the whole of the WesternEurope. The maps are:
