The map of Western Europe comes as a DVD which you download to your Tomtom, this is done using the free programme called Tomtom home. You then are able to use your Tomtom one, Tomtom Rider, or any of the Tomtom Go series in Europe. The map in this review is version 6.5, this is the latest version out, and is pretty much up to date.
Contents - In the box you will find, the latest version 6.5 software on DVD, containing very detailed instructions, voice prompt files and Tomtom home, also in the box are the warranty leaflet, (the warranty is for one year) a simple installation poster, and the product code card (you will need to go online to activate this, see www.ttcode.com)
Type of format - as stated the DVD is put into your PC, which in turn is downloaded to the Tomtom. There are some nice & easy to see graphics, and the colours are just right for most light conditions.
Price - The recommended retail price of this is £80, but of course we will not pay that. You will find a lot cheaper online, in discount buckets in shops, PC World, or on the likes of ebay, just remember that you will be paying postage & packaging if buying by mail order. You should be able to source these for up to 50% less.
Coverage - the following countries are covered at about 99%, but there are places like Poland where the coverage is only about 80%.
Maps Included: Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Finland, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Great Britain, Czech Republic.
limitations - As far as I know there are no limitations, apart from the usual glitches we are used to in the UK. Examples include new roads, moved junctions etc. These pose no problem, you just need to let the Tomtom get lost than get found again. I have rarely been sent the wrong way, and always get there in the end.
Packaging - The packaging is good, this is importand if you are buying mail order.
POIs - Yes, and there are literally Millions of them.
Speed cameras etc - Yes you can upload speed cameras - or should we call them safety cameras? Remember that some European Police forces do not like anything with speed cameras on.
Ease of changing from Europe to UK - Very simple, you simply change the card which is easy.
Tomtom home site - you store your info here, plus you can make a spare back up copy of your card, just in case of loss (cards are very cheap and available from the likes of 7day.com etc) You will need a 1Gb card.
Do I recommend it? - Oh yes, I can recommend these maps, even though I did not actually buy one, although it is only a matter of time before I do. It is well worth it just for the loss of stress, I am a great believer in Tomtom products, and the reputation speaks for itself, go on, treat yourself. it is only as much as some of you pay for a night out, and certainly a lot less hassle! . . .
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
(+) Large clear menu for touchscreen. Quick setup to navigate to postcodes. Clear driving instruction. (-) Poor POIs, Lack of route preview. Missing villages. No cam preview found.
(+) Cheap compared to standalone, removes the need for seperate sat nav (-) No post code only search but this can be resolved with adding a house number of any house
Great review, but I use Navman, very helpful review though

Too limited for me I'm afraidas I require eastern Europe too - particularly Poland and Slovakia - which is why I went for a Becker system, which you don't hear so much about. I'll review it when I've a European trip under my belt next month. Richard.
