Review of "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 (Xbox 360)"
I couldn't wait for Rainbow six Vegas 2 to arrive when it was released on the 21st March. I had pre-ordered the limited edition steel book version from play.com at the price of £39.99.The steel book case is very well presented and worth the price, most games are £39.99 anyway so I was on to a winner getting the limited edition version. After taking off the wrapper, the case had a cardboard sleeve around it, after slipping it off revealing the metal case I was really pleased with how good the steel case looked. On opening the case I was surprised again, what I didn't know was that the limited edition game came with a bonus DVD.
I'm not one for spending time reading instructions before I start playing games, the good thing about games like Rainbow six is that they are not complicated in anyway. The plot of the game follows the rainbow six team, Terrorists take control of Las Vegas, and plant bombs around the city. Rainbow six are called in to take out the terrorists and defuse the bombs. As you get more into the game, it moves away from Vegas and moves to a small town in Nevada, where terrorists have taken control of an oil refinery.
The graphics on rainbow six are probably the best I have seen on the Xbox 360. This instalment of rainbow six has been improved from the first Vegas. You can still order your soldiers to another area, and order them to stack up at doors and send them in to clear rooms. Now there is an enhanced ' cover and shoot' where you can take cover behind items and either fire blindly or target your opponent. There is also a point scoring system where you unlock rewards as you play. There are 3 different categories that you can score points in Marksman, Assault, and Close-Quarter Battle. This system is known as the Advanced Combat Enhancement and Specialization" or ACES for short. There is now also a feature where you can customize the character you play as, in the first rainbow six Vegas this was only available on Xbox live, which I don't have. You can also play co-op games or multiplayer. There is also a feature that is simply called terrorist hunt, where you can pick the scene and you and the team hunt down and kill a specific amount of terrorists. This is useful as practise before you start to play the actual story mode.
After popping the bonus DVD into my computer I discovered desktop wallpapers, windows Icons & Avatars, instant messenger thumbnails backgrounds and emoticons, forum icons and animated signatures, a rainbow six Vegas 2 trailer and a rainbow six Vegas 2 developer diary. None of which I will probably ever use but you never know. All in all I was really impressed with the game, the game play is simple, shoot bad guys, throw grenades and save the world. The graphics and game locations are excellent and my favourite thing about these games is that they are a franchise which means there will definitely be another game in the series.
It took me a week to finish the game and when you consider there was the Easter bank holidays thrown in, that's not bad going as I did play for a few hours at a time. I really enjoyed it and now can't wait for the next game in the series to be released, unfortunately I don't know when that will be, or even if it is in production yet.
