Darknesswith all the puzzle-solving, platform-clambering action you'd expect. The game's intro sees Lara being hunted down by Parisian gendarmes and accused of a crime she didn't commit. This forces her, once she escapes their initial attacks, to uncover the mystery of the evil Nephilim. The first thing you'll notice when playingThe Angel of Darknessis that they've changed the control system to try and make it fully analogue--but it hasn't really worked and lining up for jumps in particular is now infuriatingly difficult. You do get used to it but there's going to be a goodly proportion of fans who'll just immediately give up in disgust. This is a shame because apart from that one (admittedly fairly major) blunder the game is pretty good and far more inventive than any previousTomb Raidergame. For starters there's no set path through the game, but plenty of minor and major plot branching: you now have the chance to talk to people and further affect the route the game's plot takes. You can also try out a new stealth mode, hand-to-hand fighting, a rather spurious RPG-style attribute upgrade system and even play as a new male character. The Angel of Darknessisn't even close to perfect but apart from the appalling new control system it's mostly all good news and once you start clambering over and under all the new buildings and tombs you'll start to remember just why this series has remained so popular over the years. --David Jenkins

OH dear, oh dear, oh dear!! Several months late after it was initially due to be released one would have thought that at the very least Angel of Darkness would be relatively bug free. Unfortunately the thing abounds with them, mainly in the second half of the game. And for all of you thinking it’s my PC, I’m playing on a 2400XP with a 64MB GForce 4 graphics card - not totally top of the range but well within the specs of the game.
When I started playing I was relatively impressed, the graphics seemed good, Lara’s controls and movements seemed an improvement on the previous games, the music got on my nerves so I generally played with the sound off. Play it with the sound on and you see how poor the dubbing is. Then you begin to notice how frequently the game freezes, in fact the best advice I could give someone is to save game as often as you can, not because Lara’s going to get killed but because in all likelihood you’re going to be extremely frustrated when you have to keep restarting because you had to reboot. There are the odd graphics glitches with the scenery throughout the game but in the Prague section it gets particularly bad, unfinished walls, being able to see through the scenery if you’re on one side, black spots where things don’t meet. Although I was rather amused with the cafe owner whose face was back to front and had an interesting rolling eyeball, and the way one part of Lara or Kurtis’s anatomy would seem to fix itself to some point whilst the rest of the body would move away.
The gameplay itself is too easy for the most part, until you get to a part where it’s almost impossible to complete except through luck: 2 particular examples, when you’re trying to stun the red ghost to grab the painting and when Kurtis is fighting the proto. The first’s a question of impossible timing and placement, in fact I just couldn’t do it, after several hours of playing I gave up, found a walkthrough that actually let you download their game and continued from there. (For anyone who’s stuck and is interested here’s the address http://www.tombraiders.net/stella/walks/TR6walk). The second is a problem of poor controls, neither Lara nor particularly Kurtis can be controlled when they have their gun drawn, they bounce all over the place. Not only that but Kurtis apparently can’t aim his gun, if you follow the trajectory of the shots they go completely over the creatures head yet manage to eventually kill him all the same. Then again Kurtis moves with all the grace of a zombie so perhaps that’s not surprising.
The controls were for the most part easy to use except when a weapon was drawn but at several points in the game you need to look through cameras, and pan in. I couldn’t find anywhere in the instructions that actually tells you how to do this. It’s a case of trial and error, something that cost me several wasted hours while I repeated parts of the game thinking that I must have missed something somewhere until I accidentally hit the correct key .
I wouldn’t advise anyone to get this game unless the makers bring out some serious patches to it. Graphics range from the visually impressive to the downright awful. The nearest equivalent recent game is Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb and that’s far superior in graphics and gameplay.
Other annoying features that really pale in comparison to the rest : - that dire ‘talk to’ feature where you select your responses from a list - tedious in the extreme (haven't they thought of anything better by now). - someone please tell the idiot that designed the interface that when I want to exit a game I want to exit I don’t mind one are you sure but this takes you back to the main screen, you have to select exit again and confirm again. Grrrrr.
Advantages: Er, nice box? Disadvantages: Graphics, plot, controls, short levels, boring. It's plain bad!
...than any of the previous Tomb Raider games. Almost all aspects of this game can, at best, be described as appalling.
I'll start with the plot. Lara Croft, adventurer, has been framed for the murder of her mentor Werner Von Croy. In an effort to clear her name, she journeys to places such as the Louvre museum in Paris, and then naturally, a bio research station in Prague. I actually think it sounds better when you describe it like that.
Why on Earth ... ...what it is. Possibly if Tomb Raider was a failing series, you would make some changes. But Tomb Raider was great as it was. Allegedly this was the 'next generation' Tomb Raider. If this is so, I refuse to buy any more of this rubbish. Why don't they make a completely new brand instead? The plot was dire, and the locations Lara visited were out of context and made no sense at all. I say 'locations' there, because you could be mistaken. For those who ...

As most Tomb Raider fans I have waited long and eagerly for this new re-vamped "next Generation" version of Tombraider. And I was quite enthusiastic when installing the 2 discs onto my PC.
And even when first playing the game. I was impressed by the stunning visuals of the game. This has to be by far the best aspect of the game. Except for the lack of the in game movies. The story line is very good too. and in this respect every thing fits into ... ...the Tomb Raider episodes.
However I soon encountered problems. Mainly with corrupted graphics, and frequent crashes. Also the game controls have changed. And if your a die hard tomb raider. you want the controls just where your used to them! As far as the gameplay is concerned. Its about as buggy and boring as tomb Raider Chronicles. Perhaps I'm missing something, but many of the sets seem to have been created on a grand scale, without the ability ...

Advantages: Nice graphics, nice sound Disadvantages: Nothing like Tomb Raider
...it is nothing like other Tomb Raider games, in fact, I think it resembles the 'Shenmue' games in some ways, for example, Lara has a diary she adds to whenever she finds something new.
This is not to say, however, that it is a bad game, because I don't think it is. I'm not saying it's the best game ever created, but I don't think it's as bad as what people make it out to be.
In this game, Lara finds herself being blamed for the murder of her friend, ... ...Raider: The Last Revelation and Tomb Raider: Chronicles. So throughout the game, Lara's aim is to clear her name and find the killer of her friend.
It is a shame that you only get one pistol at first, and there is limited ammo, because that isn't what Tomb Raider games are all about - fair enough, collect the ammo for different guns, but I don't think you should have to do it for the pistols. On the other hand, there is the addition of Lara being ...

...you know that i loved tomb raider one and have pretty much been more and more disgusted along the way since then.
Not only did tomb raider die and then come back, she came back in the most horrific, rancidic and awful way.
To be fair, i could write for hours about this game but in all reality, everything is bad about it. Theres nothing new in the game at all, the only real thing that has changed since the playstation 1 first tomb raider is that ...

Advantages: a new adventure from the tomb raider saga Disadvantages: buggy and disaapointing
After years of waiting for what I had hoped would be an amazing finale to the tombraider series i have been thoroughly disappointed. I purchased the game and within a few hours was forced to give up play due to the level of bugs and glitches in the programming. Graphics, although improved were patchy and suffered distortion in places, and gameplay was riddled with sluggish behaviour sdespite my system being the optimum for play.
The game itself ... ...and a whole new look. One of hte downsides i found was that there were no pistols with unlimited ammunition, and whilst Lara could physically attack enemies with her fists it was no real match for her guns.
I would not recommend purchasing this game at hte current price. ...

After an unusual absence, Lara Croft carries out one crashing to pieces come-back on PC! With TombRaider The Angel of Darkness, most famous on adventurous obviously decided to change some of these practices.
The history will begin under the rain, in Paris where its mentor waits, majestic Werner von Croy. However, arrived at its residence, Lara will discover the inert body of the explorer. Immediately shown murder, the beautiful one will have then to be withdrawn from a terrible tracking while carrying out its survey. The visits of the Louvre, of the dark catacombs, but also of the baroque town of Prague in Hungary are right now with the programme of this episode not like the others.
Indeed, in addition to more oppressive environment and the multiplied by ten action, another notable change, Lara do not only any more evolve ...

) but the game franchise came to a halt on the Playstation and it was announced that the next instalment would be appearing on the (then branch new) Playstation 2. They promised a fresh start for the series and then things went a little quiet.
Finally, after several slipped release dates and some three years of development TombRaider 6 has finally been released on the PS2 and PC but was it worth the wait?
To give it it's full title, Lara Croft TombRaider: The Angel Of Darkness (AOD from now on!) opens with an argument between lara and her former mentor, Werner Von Croy, during which he is murdered and Lara becomes the prime suspect. The player then takes over guiding lara in her quest to prove her innocence by tracking down those responsible, a group called the cabal.
As with previous games in the series AOD concerns itself more ...
