I have been a tomb raider gamer since the first one came out, and I think with Anniversary and with the previous "Legend" the whole thrill for me has gone.
Anniversary is a remake of the original tombraider and I remember some of the levels quite well, especially the dreaded T-Rex you have to take down, if you survived the Raptors! Anniversary is a remake to make use of all the gaming developments both in ways that Lara can move, how she interacts with the environment and the advanced graphics that modern technology has afforded us. The problem with Anniversary, as with Legend, is that the range of movements are difficult to deal with, left is no longer left (depending on the camera angle!). Moving Lara around the screen and getting her to face the right way is often too much of a challenge and therefore it may have sacrificed the love of gamer's who were less hard core and enjoyed a great looking game with easy manoeuvrability.
The graphics in this game are excellent, the upgrade looks cool and the scenes and set pieces are well done. There are a few glitches still within the game and the "checkpoints" (automatic saves throughout the game) are annoying, it is often difficult to save between these checkpoints and find the save point again later on when you fall down the stupid cavern that you didn't see - again!
Some of the levels are quiet easy and some more experienced users may find it over with quickly. However there is the time trial aspect of each level which is fun to see if you can beat the clock / your own times. The reason the levels are sometimes easy is because when tomb raider first came out it was a lot simple than what it evolved into.
I very much enjoy the ability to do a little gymnastics with lara, grab onto walls and drop down and jump up - but when it comes to manoeuvring her during battle it drives me insane!
The puzzles are fun, though some can get a little tedious. Croft Manner is fun but takes ages and because much of it looks the same inside you can get mixed up as to what rooms you've been in and where you'd come around to.
Some users have found glitches with the installation of tombraider - but there are a good few forums to help you get around this and a few tricks to get it to work.
All in all, a good game, fun to play for a while, but not for the many hours I used to spend with it, a little frustating at times.
