...good, we trusted the name Tommee Tippee and we liked the fact it said it would only take 'a unique 5 minutes' to work.
The steriliser itself is very easy to use. It comes with a basin in which there is a ceramic plate which is the heating up function. In the basin you need to put just 80mls of water- according to instructions, however, we often found that it needed double this. On tpo of the basin is the pod for your bottles and beakers ... ...your smaller items like dummies, teats and spoons. The lid then closes onto this and locks by pushing the switch across.
The sterilising system.
You simply press the button then the electronic display shows various figures:
H- Heating up
S- Sterilising
C- Cooling down
3- 3 hours left
2- 2 hours left
1- 1 hour left
E- Error.
When you have a baby one of the essentials on your baby shopping list is a steriliser. You NEED to sterilise your baby's bottles as milk is a great breeding ground for bacteria so it is vital that all bottles are properly cleaned and made sterile so it's important to buy a steriliser which actually performs well.
The last thing you want is for your essential piece of equipment to suddenly just break one Sunday evening and you have the panic of 'oh my God the shops are closed and we have no working steriliser'. Due to this reason alone I would not recommend this steriliser.
We bought it because it sounded really good, we trusted the name Tommee Tippee and we liked the fact it said it would only take 'a unique 5 minutes' to work.
The steriliser itself is very easy to use. It comes with a basin in which there is a ceramic plate which is the heating up function. In the basin you need to put just 80mls of water- according to instructions, however, we often found that it needed double this. On tpo of the basin is the pod for your bottles and beakers and on top of that slots a little shelf for your smaller items like dummies, teats and spoons. The lid then closes onto this and locks by pushing the switch across.
The sterilising system. You simply press the button then the electronic display shows various figures: H- Heating up S- Sterilising C- Cooling down 3- 3 hours left 2- 2 hours left 1- 1 hour left E- Error.
Now my first complaint is that the S stage should only take 'a unique five minutes' but I can honestly say that the five minutes are very unique as they are indeed more like 15 minutes. The second complaint is that the E for Error shows only at the end, so you may have waited a good 20 minutes only for the E to show, itwould be more useful for this to show at the beginning of the cycle so you know immediately that something isn't right.
The hours that it counts down shows how long the items are still sterile for but here is another design fault.
The items remain sterilse whilst inside the pod so long as the lid isn't opened. Once the lid is opened you have 1hour in which to use the bottles before you need to sterilise again. But once you've opened the lid the display doesn't change to show it has been opened so Mrs B could have come into the kitchen, opened teh steriliser then closed it again without me knowing so 3 hours later I may stll be thinking the bottles are okay to use. This is a design flaw, it needs some form of notifcation about the lid having already been opened.
Also, when the steriliser is counting down them 3 hours you can't re-sterilise which is ridiculous when you think that you can only use it for an hour if yiu've already opened it, the only way to get round this is to use the useful -turn it off n on again- trick!
The pod itself holds about 4-6 bottles depending on how many you use and the tray at the top holds a large amount too which is always good as there seems to be hundreds of parts to our bottles!
The lead for the plug is long too which again is useful.
The steriliser is white and easy to wipe clean although limescale builds up really quickly so you need to make sure you clean it regularly.
I can't think of any other positives actually.
We had this for 4 months and on Sunday night it decided it no longer wanted to work. There was no word of a warning, no signs it would happen it just stopped working and that was that. Mrs B and I had to construct a make-shift steriliser seeing as it was late at night and no shops were open for us to buy an emergency replacement.
I wouldn't recommend this steriliser to anyone. It's shocking. You need something reliable and since looking for the new replacement i saw that a few reviews have mentioned that this one has been unreliable for others. I really do not think you should go near this steriliser unless you like the drama of it suddenly deciding not to work!
It isn't really big enough or reliable enough if you're bottle feeding alone, we mix feed so we don't use many bottles a day but friends who have been bottle feeding say that they use bigger sterilisers that keep bottles sterile for 24 hours so it's not really that reliable or up to scratch even if it did continue working!
It costs about £35 and comes with free closer to nature bottles and available from many stores such as babies r us and mothercare but don't bother looking for it as you'll only end up regretting it if you do buy it.
Advantages: large capacity Disadvantages: doesn't work!
...had been made on this Tommee Tippee one which also said that it had suddenly stopped working. It worries me that an item which is so essential and important as a steriliser can suddenly just stop working. I therefore don't recommend it and suggest that you avoid this one at all costs. It may be reaonable at £35 but it definitely isn't worth it if it means it will break when you've only had it 3 months and that it ijust doesn't work. Definitely look ...

Advantages: light, easy to use Disadvantages: takes a while, gets dirty quick
...to nature bottles and a tommee tippee beaker which have come in very useful as these are the bottles which a lot of midwives recommend. The steriliser is quite large, larger than those which pop in the microwave but it is easy to take apart so if you need to take it away with you or store away for a while then it is good. It comes in three parts- the base which you put 80 ml of water in before using it (80ml is handily marked on the bottles too so ... ...machine in which you place your bottles and then a tray which slots on top of this where you put smaller items like dummies, teets, bottle brushes etc.
It is plugged into the mains, not battery or microwave operated.
Bottles are placed upside down so that the steam easily rises into the bottles to clean them and make them sterile.
All you have to do is put your bottles inside, close the lid and then press the button.
The display above the button ...

Advantages: Fast, Easy to store & Clean Disadvantages: Can get dirty quite quickly if bottle are not cleaned first
...so many good reviews about Tommee Tippee's own one, about how they are the new Avent. So i decided to take a risk and what a good choice this was. Now if you look at this piece of equipment you can see that it is really slim, light and easy to clean. It has three parts to it plus plug, starting from the bottom it has the base where the water goes in, only a small amount is needed (80ml, dont worry though as the bottles indicate this level). The second ... ...effort Tommee Tippee have got my thumbs up. I have actually kept to Tommee Tippee items.
Hints for using item - Wash items in soapy water and dry before putting in as water marks burn onto them and leave unremovable marks. Happens with any steriliser not just Tommee Tippee. ...

Advantages: Quick, easy & compact. Disadvantages: May be too small.
...& went for the electric Tommee Tippee version....
As it was, I didn't need to splash so much cash after all. The usual RRP of £39.99 was slashed to a mere £25 on Amazon.co.uk, & I have since seen this steriliser on similar price offers at various other stores.
What swayed me toward the TT version was the shape. Every other steriliser seemed to be round & therefore took up a lot of space. The TT one however is a much flatter, more oval shape, with ... ...the kitchen counter. I'm very glad that it is so neat, what with my minimalist lifestyle & counter space being at a premium.
The steriliser couldn't be easier to use. Just fill it with previously cleaned bottles/teats/dummies etc, pour 80ml of water in the base, switch it on & away it goes! After 5 or so minutes the display shows a number '3' which indicates that the cycle has finished & the contents will remain sterile for 3 hours. The counter ...

Advantages: holds a lot Disadvantages: doesn't take 5 mins
I bought this steriliser from babies r us for £35. It looked like a real bargain as it claimed to sterilise in just 5 minutes and came with free Closer to Nature bottles so we thought we would buy this one and try it.
The steriliser overall is fairly decent- it holds 6 bottles although this is quite a tight squeeze so we just tended to do 4 at a time. Above the main body of the steriliser is a shelf for you to put small items on like the teets. ... ...it by pushing the plastic lock across. To work the steriliser you had to put in 75ml of water (although this often wouldn't work and we found ourselves sometimes adding double this) and pressing the button. The steriliser works through it's system of heating up, sterilising, cooling down and ready.
The sterilising system is meant take 5 minutes but it took plenty more than that! More like 15 minutes so I think this lets the machine down as it was ...
