I chose Tommee Tippee first cup because it was a name I knew I could trust but also because it was suitable from 4months whereas a lot of the others were from 6 months.
The beakers come in different colours and some have little pictures on which I think makes them nice and appealing compared to a see-through bottle! If you're trying to persuade your baby to become interested in a beaker instead of a bottle then it's useful ... ...with this process.
The beaker is slightly see-through so you can see how much liquid is inside. There are marks on the side too so you can fill it with as much oz or mls as you need and you will be able to see how much you have put in and how much baby has drank.
The handles are on boths sides and are a nice size suitable for a little person's hands.

When I read in books about what my baby should be having and when I always panic that she's not doing it at the right time and that I'm a bad mother and when I read that she should be starting to learn to drink from a cup/beaker now that she is starting to be weaned off the breast I had a mad painc rush down to the shops where I was suddenly faced with an entire shelf load of different beakers.
I chose Tommee Tippee first cup because it was a name I knew I could trust but also because it was suitable from 4months whereas a lot of the others were from 6 months.
The beakers come in different colours and some have little pictures on which I think makes them nice and appealing compared to a see-through bottle! If you're trying to persuade your baby to become interested in a beaker instead of a bottle then it's useful to have the bright colours and pictures on to help with this process.
The beaker is slightly see-through so you can see how much liquid is inside. There are marks on the side too so you can fill it with as much oz or mls as you need and you will be able to see how much you have put in and how much baby has drank.
The handles are on boths sides and are a nice size suitable for a little person's hands.
The lid snaps on which is good, so often they are screw on lids which can be fiddly to do or you can not put them on squarely wihch can cause leaking. The spout has two free-flow holes in and snaps down when not in use so prevents leaks.
The spout is free flowing so doesn't need the baby to suck. With some other first cups and beakers the sucking action is still required but not with this one! Sobe warned, when you first use it it gets very messy! My baby has used hers for about a week now and still hasn't got the hang of it yet but it does take time! She still sucks when she is drinking and then has a good spluttery cough and immediately reaches out for the beaker again as though it was fun!
This is a great beaker to help babies adjust to drinking in a different nature than sucking to get liquids. It can be used for both juice and milk and is fine to just clean with hot soapy water then pop in your steriliser. You do have to clean the spout carefully though to ensure that it's all cleaned and so it may be an idea to buy new ones once you notice they're getting a bit worse for wear.
The beaker cost me £1.99 from mothercare and I have seen them in other stores too including John Lewis' and Boots. Our local children's centre use these beakers and all of the babies there seem to be able to drink from them and so I'm hoping with a little more practice baby Hope will soon be following suit!
I really rate these little beakers as they're a good size and light weight too so very baby friendly for them to be able to lift them up and learn how to drink from them without help.
A really good little beaker that I do really recommend.
Advantages: Lightweight, cheap, bright colours, free flowing Disadvantages: Not totally leak proof, can be fiddly to clean
...but I've looked on the Tommee Tippee website and they do 4 for £6, and you'll probably need 4 so it's still good value (although a little bit more than 99p!) My daughter was a bit unsure about this cup when I first offered it to her, but after a couple of months (yes that long!) she was eventually drinking water confidently from a cup! I'm glad I started early with trying her with because she didn't actually need water at that time because I was ... ...and needed some water to wash them down she was a pro at using a cup.
Once I started weaning her off the breast and onto formula, I used these cups (I now had about 4 or 5 in my possession) for her milk and she had no problems with taking the formula and so I just used to prepare it all in the morning, place the cups in the fridge ready made with the formula and take them out as needed. They can also be microwaved and this is how I used warm up ...

...without the lid so they have been excellent value for money. He uses other toddler cups but still has the Tommee Tippee cup as they are good value for money and they are easy to take out with us. So this cup is still a favourite for us. ...

Tommee Tippee First Beaker 4months+
After starting Jack off on some pureeed food i thought i would give it a go offering him some juice. I had been pretty unsucessful up until now offering him water in his usual milk bottle and often got the look as if he was thinking - "This isnt milk what a poor substitute!2 Then he would screakm and scream for a proper drink such as milk! This is especially difficult as Jack seems to get the hiccoughs very often ... ...shop round i found this Tommee Tippee beaker to be the next one that would be perhaps a little more suitable. Not only was is cheap at 99pence from Tesco it looked rather snazzy too.
It comes in a variety of colours but they were out of blue at the time and we are now stuck with a somewhat girly orange colour. None the less Jack seems to be able to get the hang of usuing it without any trouble. It unfortunatley does not have a non-spill cap and ...

...cup I eventually found the Tommee Tippee First Cup, I spied the cup in Asda and to be honest I was initially attracted by the price, just 99p. I thought I couldn't go wrong with something at this price and I was totally correct, this is the best baby cup I have bought, I just wish I had discovered it with my older children. The cup is a very simple design, it has no sealing disc or special valve to stop the liquid leaking. The Tommee Tippee cup has ... ...down the spout and this prevents the liquid spilling, easy for carrying. The spout is free flowing which basically means that the baby does not have to suck hard to get the liquid out, more like drinking from a cup than a bottle. The spout has 2 holes in the top which allow a good even flow of liquid.
The cup has very good handles, they are not too thick but are big enough for little hands to get a really good grip, and the handles just seem to ...

...beaker.
We tried a tommee tippee explorer beaker which looked very complicated with it's valve inside and it had to be taken apart and each time bit sterilised each time. We thought it looked great and scientific with the valve so it must be good... sadly it wasn't. Baby B was not impressed with it and couldn't seem to get used to it and it was just fiddly messing around with putting the valve back on each time so we decided to go for another type. ... ...saw that this 'first cup' was recommended from four months and so thought it must be more 'little baby friendly'. It cost us £1.50 which is a bargain considering that Baby B's bottles are £5 each.
The beaker has two nice thin handles on each side so it is ideal for baby's small hands. Baby B is able to get a good grip on them and likes to have control over the cup so these are great little handles. The lid snaps on really easily, you don't have ...

When my eldest was about 4months the firstcup I bought her was a TommeeTippeecup - she couldn't really drink out of it this early and I tried numerous cups. I found as she got older that she would tip them upside down and the drink would go all over (luckily we had wooden floors so it was easy to wipe up). When she was about 6 - 8 months I came across the anyway up cup, at the time they said for 9 months+. Now they say from 6 months+.
The cups come in various colours and the design of the cup hasn't changed - it's a cup with 2 handles and an oval like spout. But it is not free flowing. They now also do a tumbler ie without handles and a smiley cup which has a lid to put over the spout to keep it clean. They all have a vlave (invented by Mandy Haberman) moulded into the mouth piece which seals between sips.
When my eldest first ...
