Advantages Advantages Changes colour to alert you food is too hot, durable, fits in little mouths

Disadvantages Disadvantages Stays yellow a little too long meaning food is often on the colder side

Mr Lools and I had just mastered bottle feeding when it was suggested by a paediatrician that at 19 weeks it would be advisable to wean our twin boys. So I read up on what to feed them and then it was a case of finding weaning utensils to support this. At this time our freezer was jam packed of various fruit and vegetable purees which I was defrosting and heating using a microwave therefore I was terrified that I would feed my boys food that was too hot. I decided to purchase the Tommee Tippee Heat Sensor Spoons in order to test the temperature of the food I was feeding my boys. ***Tommee ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages i don't really rate the heat sensing bit (see review)

Starting a child on food is always a bit scarey. What do you give them? When are they ready for bits? Jars or homemade food? oh dear I could go on with all the questions! I went out to Asda a few months ago to stock up on the gear I would need for my youngest as he was beginning to start his food journey. I chose to visit Asda as they were having one of their Baby Events and lots of products were reduced. I got many things from them like cups and spoons. One pack of spoons were these Tommee Tippee heat sensing spoons. To be honest I didn't realize they were the heat sensing ones until I got ... more

Advantages Advantages Will warn if food is very hot

Disadvantages Disadvantages not very easy to hold

I have two of these heat sensitive spoons. One came in a pack of 2 pots and 1 spoon from my mum, the other was a freebee when I filled in a survey for cow and gate. I originally thought they sounded like a really good idea, but now that I've used them for a short time my opinion differs. Appearence ----------- These are a soft plastic spoon in a two tone of red and yellow. The heat sensitive part is coloured red and comprises of the spoon bit and a section which extends about halfway up the middle of the handle. This part seems to be of a softer plastic and is fairly flexible. The most bendy ... more

    Advantages Advantages piece of mind

Disadvantages Disadvantages the spoons do become less heat sensitive with time.

This is a great weaning spoon made by the reliable Tommee Tippee. Im sure that every parent has worried whether the food is too hot for your little cherub. The idea is that the spoon actually changes colour to let you know how hot the food actually is. If the spoon stays red or turns orange the food is fine. If it turns yellow then it is too hot and will burn your baby. Its as simple as that. The actual spoons themselves are very soft on your babies mouth and are a nice shape so you can actually fit some food onto them without it just sliding of again. These spoons are such a simple idea but ... more

Advantages Advantages soft tipped, easy to read

    Disadvantages Disadvantages shaped handle

I bought a pack of these weaning spoons from Lloyds chemist for about £4 for 3 of them. The spoons are a nice colour ie red and yellow and the bowl of the spoon turns yellow if the food is too hot.The colour sensor runs up about a third of the handle, therefore easy to see the colour changes. I could not get on with them because the whole handle from the bowl to the tip is curved, although this may be easier for the baby to feed itself. We didn't get this far in the weaning stage. I found that I had to hold the spoon at an awkward angle to fit into my baby's mouth. Also i found the bowl of the ... more
