***At last a cure for cheesey necks***
As a dad of twins I have become very hands-on with regards the care for Arabella and her brother Kaiden. Arabella is a good little girl and takes her bottle with no problems. Kaiden, on the other hand, is the feeder from hell!! Every day he gets through at least twice as many outfits as Bella as he has a tendency to bring his food up seemingly at will!! A common sound in our flat is "QUICK GET A MUSLIN!!"...followed by..."TOO LATE!!". Whilst feeding Kaiden it is essential for him to wear a bib, however, the bibs he has been wearing of late don't stop milk trickling down his chin, and then down into the creases in his neck. By the end of the day my little boy has started to smell distinctly cheesey and a quick look in these creases shows an accumulation of smelly milk deposits. Of course a bath or a top and tail will sort this out, however, the creases can start looking sore and the kids definitely don't like having their necks washed in the bath!!
***Looking for a solution***
We were at the Baby Show at Excel Friday 9th March (My birthday...how times have changed!!) and were looking for a bib to protect Kaiden's neck whilst feeding. I was very surprised to come across the solution on the Tommee Tippee stand. We picked up 2 sets of Tommee Tippee Milk Feeding bibs to try out.
***Packaging***
The bibs are packaged on a circular piece of card which is designed to be hung on shop display rails. The card is a light blue in colour with 'Tommee Tippee 2 Milk Feeding Bibs' in white underneath the hole used for hanging the bibs up. Below this in a bright pink is printed 'Simply Milk'. Around the lower edge of the card, again in pink, is printed 'Unique Dribble Catcher Helps to Eliminate Rashes'. In the centre of the card are two of the loveable Tommee Tippee characters a baby dinosaur in an eggshell and a kitten, both holding bottles of milk. The packaging tells me that the bib is for babies in their first stage of feeding (milk only, although I'm sure these will get more use after this stage) suitable from 0+ months and that the bib is designed to absorb moisture and avoid stains and smells on clothing. The packaging is very bright and very easy to read and understand.
On the reverse of the packaging it details the Tommee Tippee 3 stages for feeding. Stage 1 newborn, Stage 2 4+ months (weaning) and Stage 3 6+ months. The packaging also tells me that 'The Tommee Tippee Milk Feeding Bib with its unique dribble catcher is designed to capture any little leaks or spills'. The care instructions are clearly printed and tell me to wash the bibs at 40C, do not iron them, bleach or tumble-dry them. I am warned that I should never leave my baby unattended when feeding and should keep the bibs away from fire. The company website address, an email careline and a freefone number are available for me to contact the company for more information. Apparently the cardboard is 80% recyclable and the product is made in China.
***The Bibs***
The bibs are cream in colour and come with either a blue trim, a pink trim or a cream trim. They are a decent size and provide good coverage of your baby. The bibs are made from a cream terry-type material 65% Cotton and 35% Polyester. I would deduce that the polyester is in the coloured tape trim. Each bib as a small Tommee Tippee label sewn into the left hand edge on the front with a care label in the same place on the reverse side. The bibs are fastened behind the neck with a a really good length of velcro, or possibly applix as it seems quite heavy duty. This allows you to adjust the bib to fit a great variety of neck sizes.
Now you are probably thinking that a bib is a bib is a bib....well not this one.
What makes this bib special is the foam sausage sewn into the neck. As you close the bib around the back of the baby's neck the foam sausage provides a really effective seal preventing milky dribbles to even reach baby's neck. The sponge also helps to absorb the liquid. A simple yet very effective idea!!
***Does it work?***
Well we have had two days of using these bibs and I have to say that they do actually work. I'm still using the muslin to wipe Kaiden's face, however, I can see that the milk isn't getting a chance to reach his neck. The bib is really soft and gentle on his skin too. I am very happy with the bibs and to be quite honest I've become a very big fan of the whole Tommee Tippee range and would definitely recommend to anyone bringing up young children.
***How much and where can I get them?***
The bibs come in packs of two with a RRP of £3.99 (at the Baby Show all Tommee Tippee products are discounted so we managed to pick up 2 sets of bibs for £6.00 a good bargain). Tommee Tippee products are available at all of the usual baby equipment outlets i.e. Mothercare, Boots, Babies R Us etc etc. You can also buy Tommee Tippee products online at www.tommeetippee.co.uk although when I checked their site for these bibs it said they were currently not available to buy online.
Incidentally the web-site states that they are ideal for teething too....ok I'm sure I'll find out sooner or later....just not sure what I'll be doing in this circumstance??? Will I be sticking the bibs in the kids mouths?
***Cheese test***
Sniff, sniff, sniff!! Aaaaaah no more cheese!! Result!!
Advantages: Quite a few for such a simple product. Disadvantages: Expensive
...is up to you!
Tommee Tippee has taken a really simple idea ie. putting a sponge around the neck of the bib, and made it into something that is actually worthwhile having despite the pricetag The sponge soaks up all the dribbles that inevitably run down usually onto that really hard to reach neck, before it can get onto the clothes so you dont have to change the little ones every time you feed them.
The bib has a really long strip of velcro to fasten ... ...growth and also helps to keep it on just that bit longer when they decide that they no longer need bibs and you are desperatly trying to convince them that they do.
I have only seen the bib in cream with either pink, blue or cream edging. A little boring but then how many new-born babies actually care about the colour of their bib! What matters is that the material is really soft, ideal for wiping delicate faces and will help to keep them free from ...
