I brought the Tomy Hide 'n' Squeak Eggs as a present for my daughters first christmas. I came across them whilst looking around for a few little, affordable bits to go with her main presents - stocking fillers if you will!
I brought the eggs from Amazon.co.uk for around £6.00. I'm not actually sure what offline shops sell them as I haven't seen them in shops but if you type 'Tomy Hide 'n' Squeak Eggs' into a search engine, there is a long list of online retailers which sell them. Prices range from around £6.00 - £9.00 which I think you'll agree isn't bad at all.
The Tomy Hide 'n' Squeak Eggs are suitable for children 12 months onwards, although I can't imagine there are many hazards that come with this toy and think it would amuse children from 6 months onwards (don't listen to me though, I wouldn't want to be responsible for any accidents!).
The eggs come in a durable, plastic, yellow egg box. This not only makes the eggs seem real to a child but is really handy for storing the eggs away - I always seem to be finding different pieces from different toy sets all over the house! The box opens and closes by a little catch and is the size of an actual egg box. The only downside is that the catch is quite hard for young children to open and will probably need help from an adult.
Inside the box are 6 white, plastic eggs. Each egg has 2 parts to it, as if they are cracked in half. The top part of the egg acts like a lid and the bottom part of the egg has a chick inside. The lids have different faces on and are interchangable, which means they can be swapped around. The chicks are 3 different colours (orange, blue and green) and make a 'tweet' sound when they are pushed down. Little effort is needed to push the chicks and they are suitable for the smallest of fingers.
Inside the egg box and on the bottoms of the eggs are different shapes (square, triangle, star shaped etc). The eggs fit into the box according to their shape, so effective the toy doubles up into a shape sorter.
The educational aspects of this toy is that is encourages hand-eye coordination, role play and can help to learn counting, colours and shapes. It is also unisex and doesn't requires batteries so can never run out and should never break.
This toy was a big hit with my daughter from day one and is something that she has played with alot - I also have friends that have this toy and they have said the same. The noises and funny faces always made her giggle and the shape sorting really made her think and concentrate. Infact she is now 2 years old and still enjoys playing with it! Such a simple toy but very effective.
Overall I think the Tomy Hide 'n' Squeak Eggs are a great toy for babies and toddlers. It manages to grab childrens attentions and gets the balance between education and fun just right. Superb value for money.
Advantages: Versatile and simple Disadvantages: Case is hard to open and some functionality is subtle
...he loves it. Tomy Hide 'n' Squeak eggs are a simple delight, far from perfect, but a good, almost old-fashioned toy. Six plastic eggs come in their own realistic egg box. These eggs are cracked and the tops lift off to reveal brightly coloured chicks which squeak when you push them. The chicks all have slightly different faces and identical faces appear on the shells - I think you can see where this is going. Each egg has a differently shaped bottom ... ...This is such a multi-faceted toy. I like the fact that there are no batteries and the fact that this toy is so simple. At it's most basic you have a gentle squeaking chick who appears from an egg. Ideal for very young children. Then you can play colour matching - there are two eggs in each of three colours (orange, green and blue). Then, as the child gets a bit older you can get them to match the shapes on the bottom of the eggs to get the egg into ...

Advantages: Lots of different things to focus on as child gets older Disadvantages: Box hard to open for toddlers
When my son was 9 months old my friend gave us a big bag of toys that she no longer wanted. In amongst all the goodies was this lovely box of eggs.
Basically you have a yellow plastic box which looks like an egg box and inside are six 'eggs'. Each of the eggs has a different shape on the bottom of them which are a star, square, heart, triangle, circle and a cross. Two are purple, two are blue and two are yellow and they each have a different facial expression. When you push the chick it makes a little 'cheeping' noise. They cost £4.99 new but I'm sure you can find them cheaper on Ebay.
My son has had hours of fun out of this toy. When he was younger he just enjoyed the noises the chicks made and emptying them ...

So, what are Tomy Hide 'n' Squeak eggs? Well, they're certainly not edible, although my youngest has definitely tried to eat one, as she is still going through the 'put everything in your mouth' phase! They are actually a set of six plastic eggs that come in their own realistic egg box. These eggs come already cracked though, and when you remove their heads, inside are different brightly coloured eggs with happy smiley faces! The eggs in our ... ...plus, but strangely, on the Tomy website, the child who is playing with it looks a lot younger! I have to admit that both of my girls played with it and enjoyed it before their first birthdays, although as they get older they are able to do the matching better. As all of the parts are quite large, you don't worry about them putting them in their mouths. The toy is also very strong and sturdy. Being made of plastic it is easy to clean if it does suffer ...

My daughters loved these little eggs, i brought these for my eldest daughter on her first birthday, they cost me £8.99 from woolworths.
You have a lovely bright yellow egg box which opens and closes with a pull up catch which is a bit stiff to open untill it wears in, inside your egg box you have 6 egg shells each with a diferent facial expression. Each of the six eggs has a lift off top part of the shell to reveal a funny looking creature inside ... ...chick, the box above shows 3 different colours to the eggs but i had 5 different colours in my box as only one colour was repeated.
When you press the chick down into his shell he squeaks at you which both my daughters used to love to hear.
When you lift the chicks attached to the bottom half of the egg shel out of the box each egg has a different shape on the botton, a circle, a square, a star and so on. Each place in the box has a shape cut out ...
