Helps send baby to sleep
Advantages Music is soothing, light show keeps child's attention
Disadvantages Batteries don't last very long
I bought the 'lullaby dream show' for my friend's daughter a few years ago. Her daughter loved it and when my daughter was born I asked if I could borrow it. My friend was quite happy to lend it to me, but her daughter, who by this time was 3, did not want to part with it. We managed to persuade her that we would give it back soon and I am so glad she agreed to us borrowing it.
It attaches easily to a cot and I imagine could be attached to other furniture if required. When you wind it up the toy plays 'rock a bye baby' and lots of different shaped/coloured lights drift across the ceiling. My daughter loved this toy from a very early age. I would put it on just before I left the bedroom and she would gaze at it mesmorised until she fell asleep. If she woke in the night, all I had to do was to wind it up again and go back to bed. The soft music and lights would send her quickly back to sleep. When she got a bit older the batteries ran out for the third time (this happened fairly quickly, which is my only criticism of the toy) and the light show stopped working. The music kept going without batteries and she still enjoyed listening to this at bedtime.
My friend now has this toy back (much to the delight of her oldest daughter) as she has another baby now. It has so far been used by three children and I can see it being passed backwards and forwards for a few more children (only one more in my case I hope) and then being given to other friends with babies. It is extremely durable. It cost us about £25 at the time of buying it, but I saw a similar version of this toy for around £17 in Toys R Us last week. I felt £25 was a bit steep, but considering the effect it had on my daughter and the amount it has been used, we have certainly got our value for money.
As many parents will agree, anything that helps send a baby to sleep is worth trying. This is the only toy of this type we have tried and it worked like a dream (excuse the pun). I would thoroughly recommend this to other parents. I just wish there was something like this that would work with nearly 2 year olds!

I too have one of these. I bought it for my first child and made sure it was one of the first things to come out of the loft when my second one came along! I find it pretty good, the only thing I do find though is that when Reuben is just about to drift off, and the music stops, winding the lightshow up again wakes him totally up! At least it plays for long enough usually :)
