There are lots of times you just don't want to take out the pram or buggy so this is for those times.
My first daughter absolutely hated the sling she would scream and kick and resist going in it until she was in and I had to run around to keep her happy. So I didn;t use it much for her. I found it hard to do up and got stressed and she got stressed and it became a big nightmare!
When baby number two arrived the sling has been in constant use from day one. I had mastered doing the thing up this time round so didn't get stressed and so neither did baby! Anywhere that I walk a short distance I use my sling.
It is great on the bus as no pram to get on or get in people's way, it's great in the shops as you can still hold a shoping basket, millions of reasons for using it!
There are a few disadvantages too.... I am only 5 foot 2 and under 8 stones (sorry!) and I can't quite adjust it to be 100% comfy. But it is adequate and I can wear it for about an hour before baby's weight becomes just too much.
Can't keep the baby dry when it starts raining unexpectedly. Although I am prepared for this now and I always carry my showerproof coat and I can do it up around the baby too!
My baby is only tiny 16lb at 11 months old so I can still carry her in it.
If you are considering buying this I would highly recommend practising getting all the straps done up with a teddy bear or something before attempting a real child as it is quite fiddly until you get used to it.
It looks good, black with leopard print inside. It has a little pocket on the waist strap (although this is at the back so not very handy to get things from it!!). There is a dummy holder and a dribble guard.
Advantages: looks really lush, can be thrown into the washing machine for cleaning Disadvantages: makes baby seam heavier, can't be worn for long, the 'D' rings!!
This pack looks really really good, the materials feel really lush and soft, and seams like it would be very comfortable.
BUT the amount of slack the head rest /restraint gives for babys head means baby is leaning back away from your body and you soon start to feel the strain, and even start to get that 'pregnancy posture' thing happening by counter balancing.
Even when the head rest part is tightened to the tightest setting there is quite a gap ... ...to hold my sons head and sholders closer to me to reduce the forward pull it would create. Also, because baby is leaning away from your body it makes baby seam alot heavier!
While most of the way this carrier is put on is really user friendly, the one I had used 'D' rings & domes to fasten the head rest part & the ends were SO difficult to get through the D rings on the carrier you have to turn them on a certain angle and twist it as you push it ...

Advantages: Comfortable for baby, leaves your hands free, lumbar support Disadvantages: Heavy, Tricky to wrap round baby and tie up
I got the Tomy Safari second hand from Ebay, as another means of transporting my daughter without dragging the buggy wherever we went. The carrier usually costs about £30 in the shops.
Even though the carrier is designed to be comfortably worn, with lumbar support and wide padded straps, I still found it very heavy and could not wear it for long. I am petite and not that strong generally, so it was probably me rather than the design of the carrier. ... ...loved carrying the baby round like that.
For the first few months, we carried our daughter facing towards us, and then outwards when she was older and able to hold her head up. The carrier is very stylish - it is black, quite compact and has a leopard print design inside.
The straps and buckling up of the carrier took some getting used to, and was easier with me holding the baby while my husband did the straps up around me! If I was doing it myself, ...

Advantages: Well padded straps Disadvantages: I didn't buy one for my first baby!
I was given the Tomy Safari baby sling as a present for my second baby and it is great to use when out and about as it keeps your hands free for shopping or holding onto a toddler! It cost £30 from Mothercare (they also sell them in Babies R Us and most other nursery shops).
It is predominately black but has a leopard "safari" print inside where the baby sits (so Dad's should not be embarrassed to wear it either!) It is suitable for babies from ... ...it should last longer than some other baby slings. It offers good support for a newborn and has fleecy padded leg holes.
The baby can either face outwards or towards you and there are sufficient fastenings to adjust according to the baby's size.
If your baby falls asleep whilst in it, you can remove it from yourself and just lie him down without disturbing him as it all unbuckles quite easily.
It has well padded shoulder straps and a padded lumbar ...

Advantages: Secure, padded, looks great Disadvantages: Getting on can be a bit of a pain.
I borrowed my sisters safari sling after i had my second daughter. Ididnt use one the first time round as ithought it wouldnt feel very safe, how wrong i was! It feels very secure and is very comftable.
It ranges from newborn up to about 6,7,8 months depending on the size of your baby.
They can face towards you or out, although i havnt tried facing out as i prefere to have her facing me. It has a soother holder and white bib part which comes off ... ...shoulder and round to the wast and one round your back. There are 4 clips/straps to hold your baby in, it may sound like a lot of straps to clip together but all carriers have this.
I find it easier to put the carrier on myself before putting my baby in, once your all strp up of you go, i still find myself holding the back off my baby but it is secure. With having to keep an eye on my 5 year old and with all those things to look at in shops you ...

comfy and cool Review ofTomy Safari Baby Slingby

Advantages: cool ! Disadvantages: better for slim parents!
i used a tomy safari baby carrier ( aprox £30 ) from boots, for the first 4 or 5 months with my second son. As he was quiet large and early, having him close was soothing but a little heavy!
i would say its better for taller slimmer parents as i found it was just as heavy as when i was pregnant. Ive now passed it on to a friend as it was hardly worn, of the few times i used it in the first 5 months, it wasnt for longer then a hour at a time, and ... ...you can get the tomy safari from wollworths, mothercare, babies r us and plenty of independant stores. You can get it online from ebay, boots, mothercare and some of the mail order catalouges.
I would recommend keeping either the box or the instructions as by the time you come to use it for a second time, you might have forgotten the essentials!!! ...
