Making the decision what baby monitor to get when my son came along wasn’t an easy one as there are so many monitors to choose from.

***** The instructions *****
The instructions are easy to follow, they tell you how to set up the baby unit selecting the right channel and the communication range the monitors have.
***** Using the monitors from the main electricity supply *****
To get the best performance from your monitors Tomy recommend both units be used by the mains adaptors that comes with them.
All you need to do is plug the adaptor into the back of the unit, switch on at the mains and when the red LED (Light emitting Diode) is illuminated then you know they are functioning correctly.
***** Selecting a channel *****
You set both units to the same channel (which is A) You can leave the units on channel A unless there is interference (for example from a neighbours monitors, don’t just change one of the units, both units must be changed.
***** Setting up the baby unit *****
You’ve no need to put the monitor under the baby’s nose, you can put it up to 10 feet away and it will still work perfectly. Either using mains or batteries switch the units on and make sure the red light is lit.
The units have been made with a wide base so they can be easily stood up.
***** Setting up the parent unit *****
This unit is the receiver and the baby cannot hear any sounds from this unit. It is very similar to set up but has different options for monitoring the baby. You can have ‘sound and light’ or just light. To have sound and light turn on the light display by moving the button at the side of the unit to ‘on’ and make sure you can properly hear baby by turning up the volume by the rotary volume control on the side of the unit.
Lights only- all you need to do is turn the sound control to mute (ideal when entertaining) The light display is an arch of lights at the top of the parent unit, green to red, the green lights indicate that baby has just moved or made a small sound, the red lights indicate baby is crying or in distress.
On the monitor there is a volume control switch to enable you to hear baby’s sounds at the level you wish, there is a minimum volume whis is pre set so you cannot turn the volume down to low.
***** Positioning *****
The parent unit is designed with an adjustable clip on the back; it can either be used to attach the unit to a belt, or turned upside down and used as stand.
***** Communication Range *****
The walkabout classic monitors are designed to work within a 100 metres, but with an increase in distance between them the signal strength is decreased. The range from both units is greater if both units are powered from the mains supply.
***** Important *****
No other adaptors should be used to power your monitors. Always make sure both units are on the same channel. Make sure the unit or the adaptor is within reach of your baby. Regularly check to make sure your monitor is working properly.
DO NOT – use as a substitute for proper parental supervision. And don’t forget your monitor transmits over public airwaves and your conversation could be heard.

We’ve used our monitors now for 12 weeks and we are very happy with them, we can even hear him breathing. My opinion of Tomy walkabout classic monitors is that they are an excellent way of listening out for baby whilst you have the freedom to walk about your house.
Advantages: Portable, volume control, peace of mind for parents Disadvantages: The mute button is pointless and not well thought out, interference
...that's why we chose the Tomy Walkabout Classic. It's not a great quality sound, as it's not a digital monitor, but it's enough to hear your baby and that was all that mattered to us.
Of course we played with it before she was born as if it was a one-way walkie talkie and it was very handy when I was upstairs and heavily pregnant - I could tell him I was stuck (wedged) in the bath without having to shout!!!
When Leah was tiny I wasn't prepared to ... ...my arms, but as time went on I began to put her to sleep in her cot, so that I was free to do other things. The monitor provides peace of mind: instead of thinking I can hear her and worrying, I know for sure whether I can hear her or not!
How Does it Work?
===============
The monitor has two units, a baby unit (place up to ten feet away from baby) and a parent unit (carry around with you - there is a useful belt clip). These units run off the ...

...pounds its not. But because Tomy are a brand that I trust and associate with good quality products. I must say that other monitors are available on the market and cost a lot more, as this does the job very well I cannot see the point of spending more for the same job.
The Tomy Walkabout Classic seemed the answer to my prayers, as when my baby was sleeping I would not be tied to one room waiting for the monitor to sound.
Setting the monitors up ... ...room where the baby will be sleeping. Although they do run off of batteries, it is so much better to use the supplied adaptor and plug it into the mains. So find a spare socket and position the monitor. I do keep batteries in mine but use the mains. This means if for any reason there is an interruption to the power supply then the monitor will still be working. Every few weeks I also check the batteries just to make sure they are fine.
Then for ...

Advantages: Peace of mind - when it works Disadvantages: Far too susceptible to interference
...We purchased the Tomy Walkabout Classic Advance as this seemed the best value baby monitor with the features we wanted. Also, our perception of the Tomy brand was that their baby products are quality. The monitor cost us £35 when on offer in Mothercare. The Tomy Walkabout Classic Advance has four (frequency) channels, which means if you have connection problems with one channel you can try others. As the name suggests you can use the units with batteries (4 AA in each), enabling you to "walkabout". I find this particulary useful when I'm gardening. Advantages: Absolutely idiot proof Disadvantages: Loads of interference
...We did purchase the Tomy Digital monitors from Tescos, but for £50, the only added extra that these had was the temperature gauge and the nightlight. We found the sound quality even poorer on these, hence they were returned the next day. These monitors weren't purely digital, therefore was still prone to interference. We purchased the BT Digital Baby Monitor Plus (£60 from BT's website), and so far it has been well worth the money. I'd definitely ... ...the long run.
The Tomy units themselves are really simple to operate. On both units there is a switch at the side where you can change from channel A to B, but both monitors have to be on the same channel. The parent unit also features lights that indicate noise level. It starts off as green for a little whimper right through to red for screaming. When my unit was picking up interference the red lights were on. The units can be operated by plug ...

Advantages: Small size, easily carried around Disadvantages: Difficult chanel tuning
The TomyWalkaboutClassic Advance is described as the bestselling baby monitor in the UK.
I have had this baby monitor now for about 6 months and I must say it still hassle me although it does work. The monitor has 4 channels which the manufacturer thinks makes it easier to find one that's interference free. I can only disagree. Every time I turn the monitor on I need to search for the right channel. This can sometimes take up to several minutes although it is meant to remember which channel was selected when you next switch on.
The monitor has a 300m range, so it can be easily carried around the house and the garden for flexible, portable monitoring which does work. I have tried it out and even in the garden the reception is good.
Tomy has integrated a 2-way communication which is described as being "handy for when baby ...
Advantages: 100% portable, mains or battery powered, good solid units Disadvantages: Can eat through batteries
Recently the video baby monitors that I had been given (second hand) gave up the ghost so I had to purchase a new set. I decided that I didn't need a video one again or one with any other fancy gimmick on it (one that plays a melody etc), I wanted a nice basic and reasonable cheap monitor just so I could hear when she wakes up in a morning etc.
After looking online at the hundreds of monitors available (most of which are very expensive) I found the TomyWalkaboutClassic Advance and after reading a couple of reviews I decided that this one should do the job just fine.

In the box you get a set of instructions whish tell you how to get started and how to use all of the various features these monitors have, you also get two baby monitor unit, one is the baby unit and one is the Parent Unit and you get two mains adaptors ...
Advantages: Easy to carry Disadvantages: Low battery life, poor reception, cuts out regularly, alot of interference
I have recently had my baby daughter and was looking for some baby montors that i feel i could trust. My partner and i brought the classic monitors but feel very let down with not only the quality but the overall product. They have always got some sort of interference no matter what channel they are on, they cut out on a regular basis and the battery life is very poor.
Its not the Tomy brand as i have since purchased the Tomy Premier baby monitors and have found them slightly better although the 'crystal clear' sound they promise isn't so crystal clear and they are a little harder to carry around, it does have a carry clip but if you bend over it falls off.
Now, i have tried both of these products in different areas of the house and at other family members houses but have still experienced the same problems. My advice would be if ...
