Advantages Haircut for £5 or FREE

Disadvantages Takes 2-3 hours

The Toni and Guy Academy is perfect for those who want a fab new hairstyle but don’t have the millionaire’s bank account!

*** How to get there ***

The Toni and Guy Stamford Street academy is situated at 58 Stamford Street and is easily reached on foot from either Waterloo Train/Tube or Southwark tube station.

The address:
58 Stamford Street
London
SE1 9LX

Telephone: 0207 921 9100

There are 2 other academies in London so make sure you are going to the right one when you make your appointment.
The academy in Stamford St. is mainly for funky and classic cuts. If you want a trim or colour/highlights you need to go to one of the other academies.

*** How much does it cost***

Either £5, or free with a voucher. Vouchers are available for example in newspapers (I got mine in the Metro, a free paper available at most stations).
This is an unbeatable offer, as you know, most hairdressers charge about £35 – £50, sometimes more!

***What to expect***

Appointments are almost every day at 9.45 am and 1.45 pm.
Arriving at the academy you go up to the 2nd floor to the reception area. Here you pay your £5 or hand over your voucher.
You are greeted by Toni and Guy staff, who want to find out exactly what you want done to your hair. I was asked whether I would mind being a demonstration model. I was shown the haircut they would want to do but it was a little too outrageous for me so I declined.
After taking your coats and being put in a white robe you are ushered to the 3rd floor. You are seated in a large room with a mirrored wall. Everyone sits a long line and waits for the students to get started. You are offered mineral water to drink in the meantime. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the music is varied- everything is played from pop, rock to hip-hop.
We waited until about 10.30 before the tutors discussed with the students what they were going to do to our hair.
My student was very shy and did not speak much English, hence a very silent haircut!
He washed my hair very professionally- no water ending up where it shouldn’t! Then I was taken back to the “cutting” room, where the student started hesitantly on my hair.
I’m pleased to say he was very careful and asked for the tutor’s help when he needed it. At the end the tutor checked every strand was in order and I didn’t look a mess!
Including blow-drying and styling (he even asked me what I wanted!) I was done by about 12.15, so I was there for 2 ½ hours.

***The end result***

I went to the academy with a definite haircut in mind-and a picture of the one I wanted! However, the haircut did not turn out exactly how I wanted, but it still looked good. And the most important thing for me was that he didn’t cut off more than I had wanted!
The student was pleased too and asked me to pose for him as he took a few pictures for his collection.

All in all I was very impressed by the students and their tutors. They were friendly and professional. Although the student didn’t say very much to me, I am pleased he concentrated on his job!
It is definitely worth going, especially if you want a complete change of hairstyle- the funkier the better!!!
