I have visited a few of Toni & Guy salons, so I now feel that I can write this review. In 1963 Toni & Guy first salon opened in Clapham London. From there on in, there was no stopping them, nearly every big town has one. If I am correct they also have or are expanding abroad.
If you have visited 1 or more Toni & Guy salon’s you will notice that they are all the same, from the chairs to the sinks, the walls to the floor. Each salon is identical, being the inside. They have a uniform of Black and White. Black bottoms with a White top, they do have their own logo t-shirts in which some staff do wear.
The salons I have visited – Chichester in West Sussex, owned by a man called Jeff. Basildon in Essex, owned by a man called Billy. This opened in August 1999. Billy is sponsoring Miss Essex at the moment. Bournemouth in Dorset, and yes this one is also owned by a man.
I
have to say my preferred salon is Basildon; it is the biggest I have been to and seen. It’s a glass building right in the centre of Basildon’s pavilion square.
When I lived in West Sussex I went to the Chichester salon, where a man called Billy worked, I was comfortable with him doing my hair. He left to go it alone, he wanted he’s own salon. So off he went and Toni & Guy in Basildon built. After he left Chichester for Essex, there was only one thing for me to do. Drive 2 hours to get my hair cut, strange you may ask but very worth it. I then moved to Dorset, but Essex seemed to far from here. I tried the Bournemouth branch which was 30 minutes away. I asked for a top stylist which I was told I got. I got my hair cut; I asked for a trim my inch not yours, as I have curly/wavy hair. 2 hours later, my hair was done, she used a GHD straighter, which made my hair look abit longer than what it was, It really did look nice. Until the next morning after washing it, and wondering where my hair has gone, yes I cried, she had taken far too much off. I Phoned Billy in Essex he came and kindly sorted my hair out, he said it was terrible and to complain, but I was happy at the time, he said the cut was terrible a trainee could have done better. Anyway I won’t be using them again. But I did and used someone else and was pleased. But I try to always use Billy.
I have to stay; some of the staff’s hairstyles are quite funky. In every salon I have found the staff to be very professional, knowledgeable, friendly, main thing is happy. All staff has been trained by Toni & Guy. As soon as you walk, there will be a smile at reception. There booking system is run by computer, so all they need on your next visit is name and they can tell you, who you saw on your last visit, and what you had done. Very good idea if you have your hair coloured as it is recorded. After you have checked in so to speak, you will be asked to take a seat on their lovely comfy sofa, which a choice of magazine’s, and also you have televisions around the salon, playing a Toni & Guy video, along with music playing in the back ground. In the waiting area you will also find a nice cold water machine.
Ok once your hairdresser is ready for you, he or she will come over to introduce he’s or her self. Offer to take your coat, and place a gown around you, to protect your clothes. They will then sit you down at there station, and ask for what style you are looking for, they are there to help. If you are unsure about a style, they are happy to sit with you going through different styles.
Next step is shampoo time; you will have someone else who washes your hair, they also will introduce them selves by name. They will tell you what they are using and when. You get the most amazing head massage with the conditioner. They will always check to make sure you are comfortable; the water is fine for you etc.
Then back to the chair for your cut, you will be asked if you would like a drink, tea, coffee. I always have the coffee; it’s what I call proper coffee. You can then have the option of magazines. Just encase you do not fancy a chat. There very chatting and they really do make you feel welcome.
After the hairdresser has finished you will be taken back to reception, where you can pay, leave a tip. You are asked if you would like to book your next appointment, or you can take a card to call them. I will say, it is a good idea to book in advance.
Now for the Prices – All prices are From:
Manager & Art Director – Cut & Blow Dry £45. Men’s Cut & Blow Dry £38.
I do 100% Recommend Toni & Guy, I have never used any other salon since my first visit, and will continue to use them. I also use there products, and have been very happy with the all round service.
Anyone wondering why Billy, was nice enough to come all that way to sort my hair out? He’s my Brother, and I am also a Hairdresser.
Thanks for reading Jayne xx
Great review. I've had my hair done there bout 3/4 times now and they do it how I want it and I can never do it when i come out of Toni & Guy so it always ends up different when its washed apart from this time and I'm really happy with my hair now. Bex
