Review of "Tony Hawk's Underground (PS2)"
Hey everyone! PLEASE go and r/r/c my new review entitled Free Chicken! I put a lot of time and effort into it, so please rate kindly!
THUG is another addition to the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series. It’s a great installment, but rather a lot like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4. All the great features are back plus a whole host more, including create a trick, WALKING! design your own board! and whole host of new tricks. The main difference with this and the other games is that instead of starting out as a Pro, in this one you start out as a rookie and have to gain your way up the ranks and win all the major skate competitions to become the best skater in the world.
The whole drawing point to Tony Hawk games are the fact it’s so fun to just skate around and pull crazy tricks. But be warned this is very far from the norm and you really can pull crazy tricks, of which so ‘serious’ skaters complain, but of which I find very fun doing a 1020 Kickflip.I love the fact you can jump off your board and run around in this game, and drive other vehicles like cars etc. Many people see this as them making the games to gimmicky, but with me it’s the more gimmicks the better! So bring the gimmicks on.
Unfortunately some mission descriptions are very vague and require many attempts not because your time runs out or anything, but just because you don't know exactly what you should be doing or what item you should be looking for. I find this especially when you play the game in ‘sick mode’.A good feature is when you can eventually pick your sponsors, which provide you with new gear graphics and outfits, there’s loads of pro skaters who make small guest appearances, of which the graphics are superb and they must have got them in to do the voice because they certainly don’t sound fake.
The graphics in this game are superb, but then again I though Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 graphics were amazing, so you could see I had high expectations and it lived up to them. To can’t expect anything absolutely breath taking with the graphics as the main basis of the game is skating and they spent more time on that than anything. The sound is great, and the songs in it are kick ass, I was especially impressed to see that they had “Stiff little Fingers – Suspect Device” on it, which is my favourite song (I’m even named after it here!)
This game is pretty easy (except on sick mode) and would probably take a good gamer only a day or 2 to complete, but the 2 player function is great and I find myself playing that a lot more than the story mode. This is a brilliant game, and now it’s considerably down in price from when I bought it. So give a great game and good chance and go and buy it.
