Top Gear…………
Top Gear is a motoring show that is broadcast n BBC2 on Sunday evenings at 8 o clock and repeated again during the week. There are three main presenters on the show and they are Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. Each of these presenters has their own quirkiness and their own very individual opinions relating to cars.
The show lasts for an hour and you feel you are getting a lot packed into one show when watching it. There is usually a few new cars that are featured on the show and test driven by one or other of the presenters. There is also "The Stig" who is a racing driver dressed in all white driving suit with a blacked out visor on his helmet. The identity of "The Stig" is unknown and there is always a lot of speculation as to who really is in that driving suit (any ideas let me know!). The Stig usually test drives a different car each week on the same track to gage how fast the car truly is. This gives good insight into the speed and handling you are getting from different types of cars.
One section of the show that I do really enjoy is the challenge part where all three presenters usually come together to do this section of the show. It really can be anything and sometimes they really have done some crazy things. Last series saw the three guys have a budget on which to buy any type of car or van and adapt it so that it could also travel a short distance in the water. The whole section was hilarious and understandably, all three failed to make a road and water worthy car.
There is usually a gust celebrity on the show who talk a little about themselves and the type of driver they are. They then take the celebrity challenge, drive a particular car around the Top Gear track, and get their best lap time out of three laps that were driven. It is fairly amusing and so many celebrities have now taken part that the leader board is getting rather full. I do believe it is Jay-K that is the leader and with a good lap time, that anyone will find hard to beat.
Although I pretend to dislike the programme and have a little moan to my partner every time he makes me sit through it, usually after it has finished I tend to find myself thinking how much I enjoyed watching it. I think I will still tell him that I do not like the programme though because then we get to watch something I want to watch for an hour where as if I said I liked to watch it we would be on par with the TV stands. It is a funny old game of remote battling!
I would say though that Top Gear is a great programme and well worth sending an hour of your Sunday evening watching it. The presenters are funny and really work well together each complementing the others charismas and they all seem to really know their stuff too. Even though I am not a big fan or cars or motoring I still feel I can sit through the whole show and not feel like I am watching something I known nothing about. It is enjoyable and slightly informative as well.
A 5 star rating is well deserved by this well put together programme and hopefully it will continue to run for many more series to come.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Even for non-motoring fans.
I hope this has been of some interest to you.
