Every Thursday I pop along to WHS for a couple of magazines. Normally I buy Chat and Take a Break and on the odd occasion I buy Top Sante. I do have good intentions of getting myself healthy one day, so buying this magazine always puts me in the mood for a right good workout/diet etc.
The September issue cost me £2.00 and with that I got a free CD worth 20p, no seriously I don't know about that. It's an Ultimate Relaxation CD with music for you to chill out with. I put it into my CD Rom drive whilst I was writing an op and nearly fell asleep . There are 15 tracks consisting of, Forest Dawn, The Swan, Water Echoes. The first two were very relaxing, there were the sounds of nature, birds tweeting, waters flowing. After the first few songs, they all started to sound the same. Oh well at least it was for free.
The magazine itself has had a new look to it, it's all glossy and very colourful. The headlines "Look and feel young forever" attracted me seeing as though Iam nearly reaching the BIG 40. I quickly turned to the article on page 61 and scanned for some miracle tips. Basically I was unimpressed, there was just a load of bumff about a professors verdict. What they probably meant was to have a face lift, no thanks it hasn't quite dropped just yet!!
I suppose there were some good tips on "50 ways to relax". I liked number 14, it said to eat an Orange and the Vitamin C will lower stress hormones. I get stressed trying to peel an Orange. Also number 8 tip was to Fantasise, it said to close your eyes, breathe slowly and think of something you would like to happen, bloomin heck I do that every night lol.
On page 36 it shows you how to correctly measure yourself for a bra, it says "Is your Bra damaging your health". Mine was, the wired bone popped out and stabbed me in the titty the other day, I must go and get a new one. I must admit, nearly all women wear the wrong size bras. I know I do, I keep thinking my bust size is going bigger, what it really is I think, is my back is getting bigger through days of stuffing my face with choccie yum yum.
I like the In the Surgery section, here there is always an article on a health problem, this month it's about Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I read that and found out I must have that problem myself. It's an injury to the hand, for years I always thought I had RSI, repetitive strain injury, I get tingling sensations in my fingers and my hands hurt sometimes. I found it worse when I worked as a sewing machinist and had to wear a support bandage. On the same page you can write in with your health problems and get a reply from a Doctor.
There are lots of adverts featuring the latest shampoo or cleanser in this magazine and normally it is a good read. This month though I was slightly disappointed, there wasn't a good choice of interesting articles to read. I only buy it every few months, so I will see what the next one brings.
Advantages: Well written, topical and informative. Disadvantages: Too much emphasis on the "body beautiful".
Top Sante is a monthly magazine aimed at people who have an interest in health and diet issues but do not want to become compulsive about it.
The monthly magazine tackles health issues in a no nonsense way and tells you enough about the subject without scare mongering. It will tell you the pros and cons of the latest fad diet but with an underlying message that losing weight is usually achieved by eating less and exercising more!
The magazine has ... ...a more balanced outlook.
OVERALL OPINION
A good quality glossy magazine with unpretentious and thought provoking articles. A good read for anyone who would like to improve their level of fitness and increase awareness of health issues.
Top Sante can be found in all newsagents priced at £2.10. ...

...every month. The name Top Sante, comes from the french word "health". This indicates before you even read the magazine, that the contents will mainly be health related. My mum has been buying these magazines for 4 or 5 years and had saved up most of them. So you can imagine my delight when I came across a huge pile of them in one of my mum's drawers!

The front cover of Top Sante is very appealing and definitly stands out among other magasines. The cover is a "glossy", thus giving us the impression the magazine is something extra special! In every issue, TOP SANTE is written in the top left hand corner. Underneath, the magazine name, it stats "Feel, Look and Live Your Best". Under this the issue and the price is printed in small writing, barely visible. The cost of this issue, and most ...

...lot of good writers.
Top Sante has a good, glossy ,feel about it and gives the appearance of being a quality publication. There is a very "professionl" look about it and the writing standards are high. On the downside it does seem to carry a lot of adverts for the likes of expensive shampoos but I suppose the economics of publishing is such that substantial revenue has to be generated through advertising. For such a colourful, glossy, magazine its cover ...

...read an excellent opinion on Top Sante Health and Beauty that came with an audio CD in the September issue. This CD is a compilation of 15 tracks of mood music to relax to. I have never had any problems relaxing when wanting to, even in the noisiest of places (like a warship with all guns blazing) so the reader may wonder why I wanted such a CD. I was interested in the country and sea sound effects as a source for a project that I have in mind.
... ...so paying £2.00 for a magazine seemed like a bargain especially as I can give it to my daughter-in-law and notch up another rare star with her.
I know that the reader wants to know all about the magazine but if you just bear with me for a while, I’ll do my best on that score. But first the CD. Well it is the reason why I bought the magazine.
Longshore – A moody tune with a background of waves breaking on the seashore.

Advantages: Good variety of topics, reliable advice. Disadvantages: Some of the featured beauty products are pricy.
Top Sante is a monthly health and beauty magazine, published by EMAP Élan, which retails at £2.It is an excellent publication, with just the right balance between articles on health and articles on beauty and personal care. The advice given in the magazine is reliable as many of the regular contributors are medically qualified, although the advice is never patronising. There is a regular feature called “In the Surgery” where readers can ... ...frequently some great give-aways from Top Sante. One of my favourites was an eye-gel mask, which you cool in the fridge then place over your closed eyes to soothe and refresh (also great if you have a headache.)
There are a fair amount of adverts in the magazine, but then you get that in most publications. All in all, this is a great mag, well worth the cover price. I’ve been reading it for a couple of years now. If you want to, you can also ...

Advantages: Cheap, packed full of information, FANTASTIC!!! Disadvantages: People don't buy enough of them!
As a sales associate at Holland and Barrett, these magazines keep me busy every weekend, as I am forced to ask every single customer if they would like to buy one. My usual selling technique is 'These magazines really are great, I read them myself and so does my whole family'. And when I say this, I am not lying! The magazines are excellent value for money, especially when you think how much a TopSante magazine or Cosmopolitan would cost you in WHSmiths. The magazines now cost £1.50 due to extra pages and a new look, but are better value than ever. Often there is a celebrity in each issue, and in the current issue there are some massive money saving coupons. There are fewer adverts than most magazines, and all are relevant to health, and the products which Holland and Barret sell. The things you can learn from this magazine are amazing ...
