I was after a 14" TV to go in my spare room at home. I didn't have a huge budget, but I wanted a decent make of television, nothing too cheap and tacky.
After hunting around Comet I came across this little Toshiba television priced at an attractive £99. I thought this looked like just the thing and so went ahead and purchased it!
Features I reckon the features on the television are pretty good, considering the price. You get remote control, 100 channels, fastext, 7 text memory pages, scart socket, NTSC video playback, on screen display, AV inputs, panel lock and an off timer.
The addition of the scart socket is useful as it allows you to run your video, digital receiver box or playstation through the television.
This television comes in two colour choices, silver or a rather unusual blue metallic colour. They had no silver ones left so I was left with the odd blue coloured one! I don't mind too much though as I think it looks quite fetching!
In Use I like the look of this TV. The front is uncluttered with only a few controls, and the shape and colour of the television makes it look just that little bit unusual when sat in the corner of the room.
A nice feature is that as soon as you plug the television in it sets itself up automatically which is rather handy!
I found that the picture quality is good and images on the screen are sharp. The screen is described as FST but this is certainly not a totally flat screen. Even so it is fairly flat and there doesn't seem to be much glare off the screen itself.
The on screen display is a good feature and allows you make alterations to the picture and also to perform fine tuning to the reception.
The remote control is pretty straightforward and and easy to understand. It feels pretty solid so should be able to take the odd knock or two! Well it hasn’t fallen apart on me yet!
The television comes supplied with a loop aerial, I gave this and try and found that the reception and picture quality was pretty good. You will obviously find that the best quality will be through a proper TV aerial!
The addition of fastext is very handy and this feature seems to work as well on this TV as on the 21" Toshiba that I have in my lounge.
The sound from this television is in mono, which is to be expected for a TV at this price range. It is actually pretty clear, well that is as long as you are not expecting Dolby 5.1 surround sound quality!
The TV also comes with a headphone socket on the front. This is useful for plugging in your headphones to watch programmes late at night without annoying the neighbours!
I have had this television for about a year now and have had no problems with reliability. I have owned my 21” Toshiba for over 4 years and have had no problems with that one, so am expecting my little 14” TV to last for a few years yet!
Conclusion I think that this TV offers very good value for money and a decent range of features for the price. The Toshiba brand I have found to be very reliable in the past.
It might be worth noting that I have seen this TV now selling for around £80, so I reckon it is well worth considering if you are after a decent 14” television.
