I bought this tv as a second tv for my bedroom, I was going to buy a portable but my friends pursaded me to get a bigger tv. I looked at various manufactureres and prices of tv's and finally went for this one, it looked good and the product specs also seemed great, coupled with it being a well known brand. So went ahead and purchased it.
I didn't purchase an extended warranty as I think usually they are money for old rope. How wrong could I be. Thirteen months later the tv standby button blew up, and I mean literally blew up. I changed both the internal and external fuses and nothing, dead as a dodo. So I contacted Toshiba to see if this was perhaps a known product fault and to ask for advice...... what I got was a complete denial of any such problem and a no for tosh authorised repairers.......
Me being me wouldn't just let go and so I searched we pages for reveiws and repair info for that particular model and lo and behold I'm not the only one with this sort of problem or attitude from Toshiba who on their website pride themselves on product reliability and customer service! Yeah right!
I took my tv to be reparied through a local reparier who said oh no not that model, don't tell me the standby button blew up! No absolutely not a known problem, then how come the tv repair mans response was that. He told me there was little hope of fixing it but gave it a try, and so he replaced the offending part and yes you guessed it blew up again.
I will never ever again after this experience buy anything from toshiba again, most of all because of their appalling customer service and the fact that they would not take responsibility for a product that they must know is faulty, and they must know because I've just had a quick check back on their sight and the tv model has been discontinued, surprise, surprise.
I am a bit of a spoddy when it comes to products and prices and most of my friends and family come to me first when they want to buy something and I have told all of them about my experience with toshiba and reccomended that they do the same as me and never buy anything again from the company.
If anyone else is considering buying this product then think again.... if you do, make sure you also purchase the extended warranty. If you haven't and the set breaksdown just past the 12 month garuntee, by all means contact tosh customer service and see if you get a different response, but my biggest reccomendation is to get in touch with your local trading standards office as they have much more clout when dealing with consumer problems, you never know even though it's too late for me you may get some joy from tosh once they know that they are not just dealing with one consumer who doesn't know their way round the Sale of Goods Act.

The problem is it was 13 months old so trading standards would probably say it was nothing to do with them.
