This review refers to the 28" model.
I have had this TV for a year now and am well versed with it's characteristics, good and bad!
The first thing to note is that you can get the TV for as little as £372 (unbeatable.co.uk) and at this price, given the quality of it, it is a shockingly good bargain. The highstreet alternative to Unbeatable is John Lewis - who apparantly match Internet prices and might throw in extra warranty.
It is a stylish TV, it looks great. If you get the "open" stand, it really compliments the TV well and is one of the few stands which has 3 shelves. Which is pretty essential these days for VCR, DVD and Digital TV box.
It is simple to set up if you follow the instructions, but not exactly plug and play! You will be impressed with the picture and the sound, both of which are very high performers at this price point.
For the tecchies out there, it has two Scarts on the back, 1xRGB and 1X S-Video. It has an input under the front flap for the type of connection that has a yellow cable for vid and red and white for audio. It only autoswitches between widescreen and non-widescreen on the AV channels, if you are using a fully wired Scart but does seem to forget if you start changing channels.
I wanted to offer a different spin on this TV: What are the loves and hates a year on: - The remote is lovely, but the sliding flap to get to important functions (such as widescreen switching) on mine is a MAJOR pain. Hope Toshiba have changed this. - My TV has a slight geometry problem the picture is rotated ever so slightly to the right, barely noticable mostly but when subtitles are on, its very obvious. - Cleaning the case of the TV is not much fun. Its rough texture traps the dust and its hard work, getting it out of there. - BIG ONE here, the sound at very low levels is appalling. It distorts and makes it unwatchable. Don't revert to the headphone socket either, thats even worse at all levels. This is not just a one off, I've heard this from other users too. - The teletext Fastext function is slow -select your fastext page and all the options disappear, not allowing you to correct if you change your mind or make a mistake.
Having said all of that, I love it. It was cheap, and has performed better than a lot of systems that I have seen at significantly more. Its been ultra reliable and I put the sound through my HiFi anyway. The picture is excellent, especially using DVD and RGB where it is genuinely crisp and unflawed. I only meant this to be a temporary TV for a couple of years while I saved for a Sony Wega! I'm sure I'll still get that Sony Wega, but I'm not going to sell this on either! The remote remains the biggest thing against this TV, especially for getting at the widescreen button.
Now look again at the price - you get so much quality out of the TV, that you forget how cheap it is and think of it as a higher end TV- hence my complaints, which aren't entirely fair at this end of the market!
Advantages: Cheap, good sound, great picture Disadvantages: Slightly large
I have owned my Toshiba 28W93B for about 6 months now and I can truly say that it is the best for the price around. It is the cheapest widescreen TV that Toshiba make but it still has all of the usual features a great picture and more importantly great sound. The TV is in my households’ main living room and although quite a lot bigger than our old set it does not look too imposing. It is a standard black with a 28" 16:9 widescreen screen. The ... ...response to comments,
The Toshiba has 2 scart connections with Scart 1 being RGB compatible as well as the standard RF in. It also has a set of front Composite Video inputs on the front for connection of a games console or a video camera. Unfortunately there is not S-Video in but that is not expected on a budget TV.
As price goes I picked this TV up cheap from www.intersaver.co.uk for just under £400 as I did not want a stand. This was the only ...

Advantages: Good quality picture and sound Disadvantages: Some picture bowing in 4:3 mode
I've had this TV for a good few years now and so far it's never let me down.
I did my research at the time and the Toshibas came out well for the value for money.
It costs very little to buy and offers genuine quality for the price. A 28inch widescreen that gives you what you want most - great pictue and sound.
The remote control is easy to use and uncluttered. One button allows you to cycle through the various screen formats to suit what you ... ...bars at the top and bottom of the screen when watching a cinema format DVD or video.
Use the subtitle format for films with....you guessed it, subtitles!
Use the wide option for widescreen format broadcasts.
One nice feature is that you can use the "super live" option to stretch the normal 4:3 TV broadcasts to fill the whole screen.
If you're a purest though and want to watch these programmes as was intended (in 4:3 ratio) the picture will have ...

Advantages: Cheap and best quality Disadvantages: Set should contain more features
We've had this Tevilvision for roughly two years and a problem has never come up. One thing I'd certainly point out to people is its user freindlyness. It took about 10 minutes to be able to use the set as if we'd owned it fo years. It's very easy to use but also is very good quality. The screen is crystal clear and any minor interuption is due to the signal. The sound is imensely sharp as if you were actually experiancing a situation insinde the ...

Advantages: Well priced, nice picture Disadvantages: Needs more connectors, cabinet a bit big
The Toshiba 28W93B is a widescreen, 28" television. It has NICAM sound processing.
I bought this TV because I wanted widescreen and already had a surround sound processor, so didn't need the Dolby digital version.
Picture quality is very good, especially when viewing DVD through the scart connections. Sound quality too is pretty good.
The TV seems to lack the ability to automatically sense when a widescreen format programme is being broadcast, ... ...viewing options via the remote control. I also found that some 16:9 format broadcasts still didn't completely fill the viewing area on widescreen mode. A bit of adjustment is needed.
There are two scart connectors which are great, and a number of inputs/outputs on the front panel. However, I thought that the set could really have done with an audio output on the back panel to allow connection to an amplifier. I have to connect the various components ...

Advantages: Good picture, easy to use, nice cabinet (free) Disadvantages: No audio-out
I bought my Toshiba 28" Widescreen on the spur of the moment. Having done a bit of research - mainly into what I can expect to pay for a widescreen - I let it go for a while. However, on impulse one Saterday, I just ran over to the nearest store and bought this specific TV...

Let's get one thing straight though - it is very good value for the price you pay, but it is not up there with the big names like Sony and Panasonic. But, for now at least, the premium the established names charge for widescreen TV is just too high in my opinion.
One big drawback - no audio-out connectors for connecting your TV to your amplifier. However, this problem disappears if you ...
