Toshiba are a very good electronics company in general and have a great reputation in the computer industry so it was with a certain amount of expectation that i tried out toshiba's offerings on the hard drive market and i certainly am not disappointed.
What I Look For
The criteria that i judge a hard drive by are speed or rate of transfer, hard drive seek time, capacity and general ease of use. This can sometimes be joined by the aesthetic appeal of the hard drive in question.
Design
The Toshiba hard drive is a very attractive, slimline black and silver enclosured storage device that is a standalone product. It's slim and long and has a stable stand upon which it rests. I am impressed by the look and feel of the polished case and it certainly is lovelier than most hard drives on the market.
Performance
What matters is the rate of transfer and the seek speed. On both counts the toshiba performs magnificently and it connected with my pc within a minute of connecting it to the usb port and the device was installed a minute after that. The transfer rate was about 14 ms which i felt was a good performance rate and it worked quietly thanks to its fanless design. Placed vertically it takes up virtually no space at all. The password security is a measure of security that i felt was useful though it meant another password for me to remember.
Conclusion
Toshiba's reputation for efficiency and good quality products is well-deserved and this is a solid buy.
