...With the 10GB hard disk in my Compaq Armada M700 laptop growing older and probably less reliable, I decided it was time for an upgrade.
After some hunting around, I settled on the ToshibaMK8032GAX. I chose this disk for 3 reasons: Toshiba branding (I am a Toshiba fan), a large 8MB cache, and a competitive price scheme. I paid a lot more than you would now (I obtained the disk 3 months ago)
The disk didn't dissapoint - I timed a Windows XP install at 25 minutes and 39 seconds, compared to the 42 minutes and 17 seconds with the original 10GB disk.
The disk has never shown any reliability issues, and all SMART health checks report 100%.
Installation wise, the Toshiba is simple to set up. In most laptops you won't have to change any settings - Most laptops run the main hard disk as a primary master.

SUMMARY
The Toshiba Portege 4000 has probably been updated several times in the past 3 years but from the early Dell Laptops there is no match. I would recommend this Laptop if you come across one either by chance or on ebay.
Toshiba as a manufacturer is now on my list of possible makes that I might purchase in the near future (tv, dvd, laptop,hi-fi) although I'm really very much a Sony fan.
I'm not to sure on the price side of things as this was a gift, but always be careful if you do buy secondhand (as laptops are very tricky). 8/10

...There is no third party Software required to format a bulky 100GB USB 2.5" HDD for PC Users running MS Windows XP Pro or Home or 2000 Operating Systems. Just follow the steps hereunder :
Partition and Format Like you use any HDD in IDE mode. A newly/virgin HDD must be partitioned and formatted before it can be used to store Data or install Applications.
Caution: Please be careful in selecting the HDD to be partitioned and formatted, once the partition and format is done then all of theData/ files on the HDD will be erased.
Please plug in the external HDD to the PC.
Please follow the following path "Start" -> "Setting" -> "Administrative Tools" -> "Computer Management" -> "Disk Management" to find your new external HDD. Just right click it to select "Create Partition" to enter Create Partition Wizard. Just follow the instructions...
