Toshiba America Information Systems (TAIS), Storage Device Division introduces the MK8046GSX 2.5-inch 80GB Hard Disk Drive. The MK8046GSX offers the industries highest areal density per platter, at 200.1 gigabits per square inch. The drive's 5400 RPM motor speed, improves system-level performance by as much as 12 percent when compared to 4200 RPM. This new drive offers enough capacity for portable video recording and editing, with lower power consumption compared to the traditional 3.5-inch HDDs. This functionality provides ideal storage for a range of commercial and consumer notebooks, as well as non-PC applications such as PDAs, printers, copiers, GPS systems and MP3 players. The MK8046GSX incorporates the Serial ATA (SATA) 3.0Gbps interface and is ATA-8 compliant, supporting high media transfer rates of up to 759 megabytes per second.

Advantages: Fast, Quiet and Reliable. Also fairly cheap! Disadvantages: None
...With the 10GB hard disk in my Compaq Armada M700 laptop growing older and probably less reliable, I decided it was time for an upgrade.
After some hunting around, I settled on the ToshibaMK8032GAX. I chose this disk for 3 reasons: Toshiba branding (I am a Toshiba fan), a large 8MB cache, and a competitive price scheme. I paid a lot more than you would now (I obtained the disk 3 months ago)
The disk didn't dissapoint - I timed a Windows XP install at 25 minutes and 39 seconds, compared to the 42 minutes and 17 seconds with the original 10GB disk.
The disk has never shown any reliability issues, and all SMART health checks report 100%.
Installation wise, the Toshiba is simple to set up. In most laptops you won't have to change any settings - Most laptops run the main hard disk as a primary master.

Advantages: Fast Processor, Great Graphice, Very Mobile, Good Battery Life Disadvantages: Internal software problem with CD-DVD DRive
...I recieved this laptop for my Birthday in June 2005 and was really happy with it. The laptop has fantastic wirless capabilities, brialliant features including CD-DVD re-writer, inc software. Fantastic graphics, sound and processor. It has an 80GB hard drive, so it is perfect for Gamers!!!
The only problem that I have with this machine, is that there is an internal problem with the software that Toshiba have put on it. Their software conflicts with Windows XP, leaving you without a CD-DVD drive. I contacted Toshiba about this as it happened about 1 year after I recieved it. They said because of warranty expiration. I then scoured the internet for fixes and forums asking for help. It turnss out that ANYONE who bought this laptop has been left with egg on their faces. Toshiba refuse to do anything about it, even though...

Advantages: Low price Disadvantages: Unreliable - Died just out of warranty
...Had this hard drive fitted in my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo A1630 from new. After 13 months it just died on me. There were no problems leading up to this an no chance to back up data (was between back ups). It was not subject to any knocks before the failure occured - the laptop just sits on my desk. Before the failure I was unaware of the one year warranty and this is obviously very disappointing as not only have I lost data, but I've also had to pay out for a new drive.
Have now replaced with a Seagate drive that comes with a 5 year warranty - ok it doesn't prove that it won't fail but at least I won't have to pay out more money!
Keep clear of this drive and ensure you read reviews if considering a Toshiba drive - seems I'm not alone....
