Advantages: Robust, powerful, functionally superior to the competition. All you could ask for from a tablet pc. Disadvantages: Can get hot, but nothing to worry about, battery life shorter than with other models (3.5hrs), heavier than the competition making it awkward for the true mobile user.

Over the past few months, I have been evaluating and rolling out tablet PC's across my organisation within the Health industry. My evaluation has covered the HP Compaq TC1100, the Motion M1200, the Fujitsu Stylistic ST4120, and the Toshiba Portégé 3500. What follows is a brief discussion of the Toshiba Portege 3500 which I hope will give users some guidance and prove informative.
Of all the tablet PC's currently on the market the Toshiba Portégé 3500 has the best performance of all the systems because it uses the Intel Pentium III-M 1.33 GHz processor and a fast hard drive. Perhaps as a consequence of the faster processor, the Toshiba is also the hottest and noisiest; it is the only Tablet PC I have used which utilises a case fan. Furthermore, it has the shortest battery life (3:05 versus 3:25 for the top-scoring Fujitsu). Unlike the other Tablet PCs, the Toshiba is a "hybrid" configuration that does not separate the display and processor from the keyboard as the slate and convertible configurations do. The hinge rotates between notebook and tablet modes. The operating system detects the change in orientation and automatically adjusts the screen, rotating from portrait to landscape mode or vice versa.
The Toshiba model is a bit heavier and not quite as comfortable to use as other models. Its stylus has a flat edge that takes more getting used to than the round pens of the others and its case doesn't have the rounded edges the others do. Because the keyboard is always attached, the Toshiba is quite a handful compared to the others. However, when you add keyboards and power adapters to the other models-their travel weight-they all weigh about the same, in the four to five pound range. The Toshiba includes valuable features such as a three-year warranty, USB 2.0, 60 GB/5,400 rpm hard drive and Compact Flash (CF Type II) and Secure Digital (SD) memory slots.
In summary if Toshiba could find a way to make the unit a few ounces lighter, it would be the perfect Tablet PC. Protective casing with straps/handles take away much of this weight issue.
Advantages: All the advantages of a Laptop with the features of a Tablet PC. Disadvantages: No internal CD Rom or Floppy Drive.
I got given a portege early last week as it's previous owner managed to scramble the hard disk. This is where the disadvantage of no CD-Rom or Floppy Drive comes it. To utilise the recovery CD I had to remove the Hard Drive and mount it in another PC as the only CD-Rom drive you can boot from costs over Ł300!
That aside, the PC itself is very, very slick. The keyboard is full sized, and has a nice tactile feedback. There are various (programmable) ... ...screen. The boot-up speed into Windows XP Tablet Edition is very fast, and is a reflection of the high-quality 2.5" IBM Hard Disk, sized at a very reasonable 40Gb. My portege has 512Mb of RAM, although I understand that you can get it with varying levels. In addition to the normal features you expect from a laptop, the LCD screen twists through 180 degrees and locks flat over the keyboard. This enables you to use the device as a true tablet PC. The ...

Advantages: Thin and light notebook, powerfull enough to do some processing Disadvantages: Some areas of the touch screen might not be accessible at a certain time
I know that some people need a little convincing with something as radical as the concept of tablet computing. But for me, Portege3500 is fast enough to do some processing without hassles.
Thin-and-light notebook is a dream machine that capable stylus processing that quite neat. It has a decent processor-a 1.33-GHz PIII-M-and a 12.1-inch screen. There's a great keyboard, a capacious 40GBhard drive, and 1,024MB of RAM. It comes with an external CDROM drive, but you can order with DVDROM external as well.
With batterypack that ready to supporting 2:40 hours, connecting internet in local hotspot still quite nice.
Only I have experience problem with the stylus, I lose it someday and need to buy the replacement, but the price is still comfortable. If you are using this stylus more frequently you will face that some areas in ...

What follows is a brief discussion of the Fujitsu Siemens Stylistic ST4110 which I hope will give users some guidance and prove informative.
The Fujitsu Stylistic ST4120 was the first such device we trialed here at the Trust and it was certainly a fantastic baptism for both ourselves and the hardware. Vigorously tested and scrutinised by disgruntled employee's, under duress, it was quickly seen as a fantastic breakthrough in technological architecture and benefited users in almost every aspect of their working lives. It is the lightest of the Tablet PCs and gets the best battery life ...
Advantages: Incredibly slick, lightweight and robust. Toughened screen and powerful. Disadvantages: Screen display is somewhat 'fiddly', compressed into 10". No extra casing protection.

The HP TC1100 is the most versatile tablet PC design overall. You can use it like a regular notebook with attached keyboard or fold the keyboard under to use it in tablet mode, what sets it apart from the rest however is that it can be totally detached from the keyboard. This was a very attractive proposition and makes for a very slick and streamlined tablet for the truly mobile user. This option makes the device a staggeringly lightweight (3.1 lb) slate. As a pure ...
