Advantages: the screen, very powerful Disadvantages: Awkward to use
...Ericsson P1i or this, the Toshiba Portege G910.
I wont' bother dwelling on the use of the windows mobile 6 as if you're reading this, you know about the Windows Mobile operating system already as it features on a lot of the smartphones out there. This review highlights what is special and different with the Portege G910.
This is not your ordinary Smartphone. This phone is more targeted towards your business user. That ... ...essential for business users and Toshiba have identified that. You get fingerprint readers on business laptops nowadays, why not your phone too? A nifty little feature as a result of this is that you can pair the phone to your laptop. If you go out of range of your laptop, then the laptop locks the screen. Upon return, to unlock it, just swipe your finger over the phone and voila, your laptop is useable again.
My P990i got stolen recently. My insurance provider offered me two replacements, the Sony Ericsson P1i or this, the Toshiba Portege G910.

This is not your ordinary Smartphone. This phone is more targeted towards your business user. That is why its not availble in most common stores such as the carphonewarehouse etc. You can tell its not targeted for your average consumer. Looking at it, its not really a pretty phone, but it sure is fully featured.
The worst thing about the phone is the external screen. Its quite useless really. it shows the time, who's calling etc, but to really use the phone, you need to open it up. Not very practical, but then the type of people that would use this phone would use the phone in the way its meant to be used all the time.

The screen is amazing. Its only 65K, but with a resolution at 800x400, nothing on the market compares. Not even the iPhone. Viewing webpages and documents is a breeze, and everything just looks so crisp.
Another feature of this targeted for the Business User is the fingerprint reader. Thats right. Who would've thought, a fingerprint reader on a phone. But privacy and security is essential for business users and Toshiba have identified that.
Another feature of the phone is the in built GPS receiver. Great. But also pointless as no GPS software is installed. You need to purchase your own. But once you get it, it is a bit awkward to use. Not because its built in. I mean, i have tomtom 7 installed on mine and it works, but because of the construction of the phone, its awkward. To use it, you need to have the phone open, which doesn't make it great for mounting in your car...
Using the camera is also awkward because of the "having to open to use" construction.
The keyboard of the phone is great. I type a lot and using the thumbs it feels comfortable. The feedback is positive and great. There are also 8 quickkeys/shortcuts next to the screen but they are a little unresponsive sometimes. Maybe its the underlying operating system, or just poor design.
Overall, if you're a business user, maybe you'd consider this. If you'd actually buy it is another thing. There are other business smartphones out there which do the same but with a far superior design. The screen is amazing but having to have the screen open to use it makes the phone very difficult to use. I personally prefer the Portege G900.
Advantages: Cheap price! Good features - on paper at least Disadvantages: Loads - design flaws / slow video playback etc.
The Portege G910 is now on sale at an extremely cheap £109 (£159 after £50 cashback), and yet its specifications will probably rival £300 - £400 smartphones at first glance. So what makes it so generously priced? Is this some kind of a mistake? It's most definitely not... read on! --- the BASICS --- The G910 is a Windows 6.0 powered smartphone. This corresponds to Windows XP of an equivalent desktop system (with 6.1 being Windows Vista). The phone ... ...a 2 megapixel camera, Wifi, GPS, 3G and a fingerprint reader. --- USABILITY --- (Introduction) As I will always point out the most important thing a smartphone needs is speed. The N95 8GB (another phone I have reviewed) has a very decent response time (due to it being powered by a dual-core processor). The G910 however, the minute you switch it on, will takes minutes to load up. The loading screen does look nice though. Moreover, once you are in ...
