Toshiba has launched another great notebook, the Toshiba R600 Notebook. Almost every people know there are two reason when people chose to buy a notebook: a cheap price and portability. On the Toshiba R600 you will get the portability of a notebook, even though you will not get a cheap price. The Toshiba Portege R600 measures 0.77 inches at its thinnest edge and starts at 2.4 pounds. It is based on Intel Centrino 2 processor technology. Currently, there are two R600 configurations available - the R600-S4201 and R600-S4202. Both systems come with the Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 CPU at 1.4GHz, GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics, 3GB of DDR2 memory, a built-in DVD burner, and a 12.1 in with 1280×800 widescreen LED-sidelight display that is outdoor viewable.
And for drive capacity it will depend on which options you go with, drive capacity and weight may actually vary. The unit comes standard with a 128GB SSD. An SSD, or Solid State Drive, is a hard drive with no moving parts, allowing for better protection, improved reliability, and super fast data access. In other words, no capability is sacrificed in the name of ultraportability. The Portege R600 is not a superslim hipster status symbol that is essentially useless, it’s actually a capable machine that just happens to be incredibly slim and lightweight. However, another version of the Portege R600 also provides 160GB traditional hard drive.
The Toshiba Portege R600 also offer other features such as an integrated web camera, the Intel Wi-Fi Link 5100AGN (802.11a/g/n) wireless module, Gigabit Ethernet LAN port, and Bluetooth, as well as two USB ports, an USB/eSATA combo port with “Sleep and Charge” functionality, an ExpressCard slot, and Secure Digital slot. There’s also a PCMCIA slot in the base; Toshiba chose this over Express Card because many users want to keep using 3G datacards. But the R600 also comes with the option of built-in 3G, which is 7.2Mbps HSUPA (and twice the speed of the R500’s 3G module). For enhanced security, there are fingerprint reader and the Trusted Platform Module 1.2. So, whether you’re a writer, a graphic artist, a musician, or a video editor, or, if you just want to watch some YouTube videos and play some games, whatever you use your computer for, the Portege R600 is more than capable.
