The Toshiba Satellite L500 is the same as most other toshiba laptops. It looks stylish and can do all the basic functions that you would want for a laptop. However, when you use it, you dont feel very comfortable because it feels very cheap. The keyboard is very flimsy and feels like it is about to break every time you type something and the mouse pad and buttons do not respond well. However, the number pad on the right hand side of the keyboard is great as it makes it so easy to type numbers. You can buy this laptop with a range of processors and sizes of harddrive so you can choose the one which suits you best. The display is actually very good but the battery life could have been improved. On my model it will last for a maximum of 2.5 hours on its lowest power setting.

The ToshibaRD88DTKB is a good looking unit and does almost everything I want. It is connected to an old TV via Scart so cant comment on HDMI functionality. HDD/DVD dubbing works well. Pausing of live TV is good. The unit is let down by its EPG guide. This covers 95% of the screen and so its difficult to see the background programme. Where the unit loses most of its stars is in the way the EPG is used. When browsing via the EPG the TV channel in the background changes to what you select on the EPG. When you have found the channel you want to watch you can press OK and this takes you to the recording timer page. If you dont want to record but watch instead you must press GUIDE this removes the EPG screen and the channel immediately reverts back to the channel you were watching in the first place. in other words you use the guide ...
