The SD220E provides fantastic picture quality (I use the Movie2 setting for most disks) with none of the problems I've seen with other players when reproducing large areas of black.
The sound quality is superb (although I have only a two speaker setup, so I can't comment on the surround sound) even when used as an MP3 CD player. It's not a match for a dedicated audio CD player, but what do you expect ?
The system is simple to set up with a wide range of outputs to suit most setups.
The box is very stylish and the interface (mainly though the remote control and on-screen menus) is very intuitive. It has been mentioned that the buttons on the remote are fiddly, although I find the RC unit very easy to navigate and use, even when watching a movie with the lights off. If you misplace the RC however, you find that only a very limited subset of the buttons are available on the unit. If I was going to be picky I would say that some of the remote's buttons (e.g. Picture and Sound Setups) would be better placed on the unit as the options are unlikely to need to be changed during playback and this would free up some space on the RC unit.
I bought the machine as a multi-region player (its was the only option at the shop I bought mine from), but I haven't tried any non-Region 2 disks in it yet.
As you may have guessed I'm very pleased with my purchase. The best thing about the Tosh has to be the price though. At a price that rivals the most budget of players you get great functionality and the Toshiba badge (I feel a lot more confident buying a product by a make I've heard of).
It may not live with the high end DVD players around, but for a hundred pounds you get a player that is comparable with most mid range systems. I recommend it without hesitation.

Hiya - this is much better and much easier to read :) Glad you weren't miffed by my comments - last bit of advice (promise - unless you ask *grin*) - if you go around and read and rate other folks' ops, you'll get a good idea of the sort of information that gets VHs around here - plus you'll get more 'exposure', and more peeps will come and read yours. Cheers, Kate

I got one of these for Christmas (thanks, mum!), and we're very happy with it, though I've only explored a fraction of the options (must get around to reading the instructions LOL). Sorry for the lowish rating - you have a good start here, but you really need to add more information - do you find the buttons on the remote fiddly? What about operating from the machine itself - can you do that? Have you tried it multi-region (is yours multiregion)? Have you explored all the buttons (I know I haven't - hence no op from me *grin*). You may also want to separate this out into paragraphs, with a space between paragraphs - it'll make it easier on the eye. Any questions, just shout, and if you do add to this, let me know via my guestbook, and I'll gladly have another look. Cheers, Kate
