The things that most people look for in a good quality DVD player are the picture quality, the sound quailty, the appearance and also price. On all these 4 counts the SD220E comes out with very high marks.
The picture quality is great, very clear and belies the fact that it is considered a lower end DVD player due to the price (I paid £110 from Amazon.com). None of the problems I have encountered with other DVD players is evident (this being the shocking ability of some to mess up a large black area of the screen and make it look like a mini rainbow (never good for the mood effect required in a film!).
Sound wise too this player scores well. Surround sound adds a whole new dimension to a great movie and when it is as clear as this then all the better. Able to play audio CDs as well (although with slightly less clarity but if you wanted a CD player you would buy one eh? ) I have not tried the MP3 CD player yet however but would be surprised if it was not of a high quality also.
The box itself is very compact and modern looking (looks more like a big laptop than a bulky player which is also a bonus!) with a stylish silver appearance and easy to use buttons if you ever need to after losing the remote! Maybe a few more of the buttons could have been moved from the remote to the player but that is only a minor gripe.
The remote itself is pretty standard for these types of player (i.e too many buttons doing too many things) but this is not a problem and after a little playing around you will be using it with ease.
If you are after a cheapish DVD player which can hold itself against say a £300 DVD player then you will not find better. Recommended – very highly!
