Having just bought a Toshiba HD LCD with DVI input I thought I would try one of these at this very low price from Amazon. I chose it over the similar Samsung upscaling DVD player because my Toshiba TV remote will work the DVD too.
This is a very compact and slimline model and build quality is fair at this price point. Nowhere as well made as my (£200) Panasonic DVD recorder though. Remote is cheap feeling but works well.Tried it with a DIVX sample with no problems. Played several films with no pauses and no problems. Light on front is too bright but can be turned off. Connected to my TV via a cheap HDMI to DVI lead the progressive scan picture is superior to that output by my Panasonic (progressive via analogue leads). The difference when upscaling is subtle but worth having. 720 progressive output matches my TV perfectly, and although I can't see any real improvement in sharpness, colour and contrast are improved and much more like when you see a film at a cinema. 1080i picture is even slightly better, except for fast moving scenes which show some "blocking".
I have now ordered a good quality lead from Amazon to enhance the picture still further.At this price worth buying until true HD machines become available and affordable - go for it!
